I admit my intended use for this product is a bit unconventional, but I am using it to bore out a core sample of agar material in a lab setting. I figured, this will give me nice circular cuts to use for transfers, and I can flame sterilize them since they are "high quality stainless steel."This is some other kind of metal that when heated completely tarnishes and loses its luster. It also smelled as though something was burning. It may yet still work for my purposes, time will tell.

The largest punch was received damaged bent cutting edge. Inaccurate description as clearly not high quality stainless steel, otherwise it would not have suffered crush damaged by the box of light bulbs it was shipped with. Packaged loosely with no care, delivery was two days late, and marked delivered before delivery by USPS. Had I not caught the postman, fifteen minutes after he marked it delivered, allowing him to locate the misdelivery, I would have probably never received this package.Hopefully the replacement will be better quality.update: the replacement was just as screwed up as the original one... dented cutting edge folded inwards

As received, none of the cutting edges were sharp enough or true enough to cut a clean hole properly. Some of the edges were completely curled over, and some were even broken.Beware, you will probably have to rework and sharpen, before you can use!

I bought this set because I wanted to cut some tobacco leaf discs for some experiments in my lab. At first, it was working perfectly I was very pleased I would finally have consistent sizes for my explants, but around the 50th disc, the cork borer that I was using lose its shape and its sharpness. I must say I was using it very gently, after that I had to use a small file to re-shapen and re-shaper the thing, I had to do that every 30 to 50 leaf disc, which is very annoying because I had to disinfect the borer each time. If you want to do leaf explants I would suggest getting a leather punch instead.

Haven't tried them yet. Every borer was chipped and/or dented on the cutting edge and needs sharpening before using.

Purchased this set to use when a drill bit might grab and chew up the material I am working with.

These plug cutters work just like they should for rubber and silicone stoppers. Have not tried these specific cutters on cork stoppers, but have used similar in the past and would expect them to work on cork too, albeit not as well as on rubber or silicone. (Have to go more gently with cork and don't be surprised if a piece or two beyond the cut hole falls out as well.)
