I used to use arches for watercolor and bought several brands to start doing pencil portraits. They are still the best!

Disappointed because the paper shreds under erasing. All kinds of erasures. Even light erasures.

This paper is very very thin, it takes graphite beautifully however it will not hold up to the eraser. If you’re an experienced artist that rarely uses an eraser you will love how it takes graphite and blending.

This is a nice paper, but not so good for pencil drawing as the paper does not tolerate erasing too well. Nice quality, I was just using it for the wrong purpose.

I love this paper for hard pastels and charcoals. I wouldn’t recommend it for wet media. It is somewhat thin and soft, not smooth like a hot press paper but soft, a velvet soft texture like a printmaking paper or textured (not smooth) newsprint. This paper is ideal for drawing in soft mediums like pastels and 8B pencil, it takes color pencil as well but it may need a bit more pressure which could damage the paper and I wouldn’t recommend erasing on this paper. For comparison, this paper is totally the opposite of a watercolor paper by arches, the watercolor paper by arches is thick and quite stiff due to the gelatine sizing added to it which acts like a glue that makes the paper more stiff, I don’t think this paper has much sizing. Other similar papers to this one include BFK rives (less sizing and similar texture that comes in different weights and colors. Another similar paper is arches text paper which has more sizing. Some of the Stonehenge papers also have similar textures but they are thicker and have more sizing.

Arches does it again.... amazing paper!!! This paper is perfect and i mean perfect for graphite, charcoal and colored pencils. I tried to take a picture close up to see the texture of the paper. It is a very soft paper but is sturdy. It is way thicker than any drawing paper ive ever worked with. It obviously isnt watercolor paper and thick like a 300 gsm paper but it is about the thickness of a dime but its not super stiff. It has a mild texture that is smooth but the surface loves to grab whatever you lay down on it. I just received it so i havent had the chance to play with a bunch of mediums on it yet. Iam a full professional artist and i love using alot of different and mixed combinations of mediums, so i will update when i play around with it more. I bought this for colored pencils, but i havent done anything on it yet bit do some swatching. Iam excited to get to work on it because like i said from the swatches that ive done, this paper just grabs the pigment so amazing.

This is perfect for the project I am working on. It has a nice heft to it, and is comfortable to use with color pencils as well as micron pens. I am very satisfied and would definitely buy this brand again. Oh, it was also shipped quickly, if that matters. May not be shipped as quickly, these days.
