These are even better than we thought they would be. So far my husband is loving themmore than our other set that he spent hours researching about the best ones to get. These come with 3 different sized antennas; medium, stubby and extended. Each antenna option easily unscrews and screws into the radio. These seem to have a much larger battery capacity. They charge quickly and have lasted 2 days so far without needing to be recharged. These come with the cord for programming which was a pleasant surprise! Also comes with ear pieces for both. Really impressed with just how much comes with this set beyond the radios. These charge either by an included usb cable or by plugging in the bases. We found them very easy to program and were able to get them set up quickly. The only negatives we would have is that it is thicker/bulkier and longer than a standard mode UV5R pro radio with extended radio. See picture to see size differences. These are not as compact and convenient for carrying around in a pocket and would be better for at home or in a vehicle because of their size. The only other negative thing is that the charger port on bottom is open and exposed.I wish in was enclosed to keep it protected from moisture and etc. I may put electrical tape over the bottom to keep it from being exposed.Overall for the price of these it is a great deal, especially with all of the extras that come with it!

Great set of Radios. These should be powerful in the field. Easy to program.I'm used to 8 watts. So, having 10 watts is just that much better.

My husband is a licensed ham radio operator and he got these hand-held AR-5RM radios (AR amateur radio) and is very, very happy with them. I asked him to make some notes on them:- Comes with a big battery (3800mAh) and drop in charger, can also be charged with USB- Comes with 3 GOOD performing antennas: long, ducky and a stubby- Good quality receive and high power transmit- Great for novices (your first ham radio license)- Can do "crossband"- Wild band coverage, will transmit on any frequency except Aviation VHF (use caution as you must be licensed to transmit on some frequencies)- Pressing a button turns it into an FM radio- Has standard Kenwood-type speaker mic and comes with an earphone/mic. Was able to check into local 2m net, good signal reports once I got closer to the microphone- Sketchy manual: No idea what "VOICEPRI ON/OFF" does. Manual syas it turns on "frequency hopping" and it's unclear what PTT-ID does or why.- Entire display goes blank (unless you turn it ON full time). It's bright but without the display you have no idea what you're monitoring or where you're transmitting. The light does come on when a signal comes in so you can see who's calling who on frequency.- The volume control knob could be tighter (harder to turn). It's easy to turn to zero by mistake, then you never hear anyone.Overall, lots of PROs and very few CONs. He recommends this product.

Great “Amateur” radios. They really are good radios.I see a lot of people buying them for whatever they want to use them for, but they are meant for Amateur radio use.

The AR-5RM is very similar to the slightly older, BAOFENG ‘5RM’ with the primary difference, as far as I can see, being the extended length battery which provides a 2500 mAh battery instead of the 5RM’s 1800 mAh battery. While the on-line advertisement points out that it is an improvement over the model ‘UV-5R’, that particular model was upgraded to the “5RM”, adding more power, memory channels and a host of other improvements; and so, the ‘5RM’ apparently is the later model. Therefore the ‘AR-5RM’ appears to the enhanced release of the ‘5RM’ model, from what I can see.In my comparison, the ‘5RM’ and the ‘AR-5RM’ are the same with the latter model now having the larger size/capacity battery, and the additional accessories that are listed in the package, like the larger batteries, and three-different types of antennas, etc.One noticeable difference in the advertising of the two models is that while the ‘5RM’ points out the fact that it also covers the GMRS frequencies, the ‘AR-5RM’ neglects to mention it. On my particular radio, I found that it does in fact transmit and receive on GMRS.Like the ‘5RM’, this new ‘AR-5RM’ is a really great hand-held, offering multiple operating bands, 999 memory channels, reception on FM, NOAA, and the AM Air Band. It has both drop-in charger as well as USB-C charging for great versatility. Both models have the same menu, screen size and display.Actually, as I mentioned earlier, the two models a virtually the same, with the difference being the battery size/capacity. Actually, you can purchase either battery separately and either increase the size of the ‘5RM’ or reduce the size of ‘AR-5RM’.I should note that I did not receive the proper manual with my AR-5RM, and I could not find a digital or PDF copy online. I did call the retailer but only received a recording that to leave a message, so hopefully I’ll hear back from them soon.Bottom line is that the ‘AR-5RM’ is a great radio, offering excellent battery life. For my uses, I much prefer the smaller battery size however. Like any hand-held radio that I use, I always carry a back-up battery.
