My main issue with this controller is the wire connector. It uses screws to press down wires to secure, like what you find in the light switch in your house. However, that works fine for solid-core wires. but often, for solan panel and battery charger, flexible wires are used, which means they are standard wires consists of lots of very thin strings. This makes it very difficult to secure use the screws on the Battery Tender Controller. Even after it is in place, it is less secure, meaning you can not really hold on the cables when trying to carry this thing, as the controller is heavy. On the contrary, my $20 Battery Tender controller uses proper screw clamp to secure wires which works fine for standard wire as well as solid wire. Also, these connectors are made of steel, not copper. I am a bit disappointed as I am a fan of Battery Tender and this is a $80 controller, I expected it come with better designs and quality.

I tried several of the cheap solar charge controllers and had limited stability. This charge controller has been rock solid and has more information and features that make total sense. Is temping to go cheap on these but save yourself the frustration.

Finished getting it all hooked up. Just need to finish my solar to get to use the charger to it's fullest.

This PWM solar charge controller fits the bill perfectly for my small solar power backup system, and it also has enough spare capability for me to eventually expand my setup too.It arrived safely and was securely packed, and it appears to be well constructed. It was easy for me to install without even needing to consult the manual, however the manual is both informative and well written if needed by novice users.So far I am very satisfied with its performance, it has been properly charging and maintaining both my lead acid and lithium battery banks. I have one set up with 2-12V, 120W solar panels wired together (attached to the battery tender) and 4-12V Lithium batteries (also attached to the battery tender) and then a set up with one 12V, 200W solar panel that is attached to this battery tender and another two, larger 12V Lithium batteries - I have a 2000W inverter on the first one and a 3000W inverter on the second set up. Understand that I have read lots and lots about solar and even taken a class on solar power, but these are my first set ups that I am learning from. They are also my way of creating an emergency power kit for camping or if the power goes out in my home. These are how I am learning for the day I set up my permanent electric set up for the house I am building. This battery tender is great - it shows me how much juice I'm using when I hook up an appliance, like my induction hot plate to heat up food. Then to watch how long it takes for the solar panel(s) to recharge the batteries. Excellent control charger unit!
