The shoe and sides are square as they come…The transition of the two part base is truly seamless. However, the grinds are sub par at best, on the shoe and the iron. I really dislike having to put a full workweek into tuning a new plane! Not sure how much your time is worth but you should be able to pay for multiple L. Nelsons with a full work week. Entirely defeats the purpose. The iron is a banana and it has obviously lost its heat treatment, if it had one in the first place…the cutting edge was burnt, blackened by the grinding. Yes, it actually arrived this way! The bottom of the iron has a very concave surface as well.

The description claims the blade is a hair wider than the body. The spec says the body and iron are 1" wide.I received a plane that is 1.104" wide and the iron is 1.084".It will not cut to the shoulder unless positioned to the side, and then has to be repositioned to the other side for the opposite cut.
