I knew when placing my order that this was a gamble because I was breaking my personal rule of not buying diodes online. I received my package very quickly and upon opening it, I could see right away that these were not real germanium diodes. A real "ge" diode will have a tiny curly wire inside the glass housing between the two leads. It will also have a little "leakage" current if reverse-biased.First, I tested the forward voltage and found the minimum threshold (forward) around 230mV...which is in the ballpark of Ge diode specs. Then I connected an AA battery backwards (+ 1.5v on the banded cathode side) and tested for the tiny (milli- or micro-) amperage that should have leaked through, but it was 0.The capacitance & frequency specs were way off too. These diodes are useless for my RF-sensitive project I'm working on. I have found at least 2 vendors on Amazon that sell real Germanium diodes, but it took some browsing and plenty of review reading. I recommend anyone else looking for Germanium point-contact "cat whisker" diodes to take the time to look at what you're planning to buy, and always read the reviews to see what folks are saying.

They test like a Germanium diode, but I suspect they're probably a Schottky like in the description. Actual Germanium diodes are fairly rare today, particularly at this price. point.
