The install was very straightforward.I picked up a set of ramps from Harbor freight for about $60 and drove the model 3 up them. This provided me sufficient clearance to crawl under the vehicle and work on it.After securing the car with brake chucks, I got under it and removed what remained from the existing skid plate. You will need a socket wrench with a 10 mm socket and a 15 mm socket. This skid plate comes with a couple extra bolts and washers should you have to replace any.The hardest part is holding the opposite end of the skid plate up so that you can screw in either the front or back first. On the front part of the skid plate, some of those bolts just kept spinning, so I had to cut off the head of the bolt to get the original ones removed. Where this occurred I needed to add in the body that comes with the new hardware set with the skid plate.Super solid and looks clean. Will post back down the road to report on how it holds up with the 4 seasons we get here in Chicago.

I have an early (June 2018) Model 3 long range, one motor. The cheap resin board came off on one corner. It would catch the wind and be pushed down on the road at high speed where it would make a scraping noise, which is how I found out about the problem. I duct taped it back so that wouldn't happen anymore, and checked with Tesla on a replacement. They wanted $220 to put another piece of cheap resin board on there. Well forget that. Especially since I found this thing here for $210.This is a nicely fitting (save for one issue I'll get to later), substantial metal plate. It is what should have come with the Model 3 in the first place. It was simple to unscrew what was left of the old one and screw in the new one. (Once I jacked up the car first. Make sure you get those hockey puck things to protect the frame and battery.) There are nine 10 mm bolts and two 16 mm nuts to take out. Though two of my 10 mm bolts were missing, part of the reason the thing came off in the first place. This plate thoughtfully comes with five extra 10 mm bolts and washers, so I used two of those. There was also a clip missing where one of the two center front bolts went. There are also three spare clips provided, so I used one of those. Now for the issue. Those two 16 mm nuts go on two bolts that stick through the plate. However the depressions on this metal plate are nowhere deep enough to expose enough of those bolts for the nuts to be able to grab on to them. The depressions on the resin board were much deeper. I was not able to attach the plate at those two points. While I am disappointed, holding these two nuts that I can't put back on, the cover is very well secured by the nine bolts. I'm not worried about it. This plate isn't going anywhere. Here's the funny part. Pull up the first image for this product. The bottom half of the image shows the plate installed on the car. If you look closely, you will see the two bolts sticking through the plate with no nuts on them! The people who made this thing couldn't get the nuts on either! I might have thought they would then fix that with a redesign, but no.Overall, I'm glad I got this thing, but it would have been better if they had designed those depressions correctly.

Background:Firstly, it is awesome that this option exists for anyone to buy in such a convenient way through Amazon! I would not even know how to start to look for a replacement from Tesla. My OEM guard plate ripped in half on a road trip from Seattle down to the bay area. It started making a lot of wind noise and I had to pull over. Luckily, I had a roll of duct tape in the car that I used to quickly tape it up so that it would not hang and create drag. When I finally looked into setting up an appointment, Tesla gave me a date a month out and a $500 estimate.Pros:The install was really easy, as long as you have something to get under the car. It was just about 8 10mm screws with washers and two larger nuts. the kit also came with new washers and 4 extra screws in case you lose or damage the old ones. It was as simple as taking off all of the old ones and putting all of the new ones on.This is a solid material. I can not speak to the longevity as I just installed it, but I can assure it will NOT tear in half like my old one. it also looks pretty sleek and blends in well with the battery pack cover if aesthetic under the car is factor at all lol.Cons:The only cons I can think up are instructions. It is pretty self-explanatory on how to install it as it looks nearly identical to the old piece. However there was an additional metal piece that i had no idea what it was for. I am assuming it may be for the newer cars as I have a 2018 model 3. Also there some gold clips that came in addition to the screws and washers that I was not sure what they were for.TLDR:Good quality, easy install, cheaper than Tesla service alternative if you are willing to put in just a little bit of effort. seriously, very little effort; just raise the car, take off the old screws, put new plate and screw it in.
