I read many reviews about bread slicers before purchasing this one. I bake all our bread and needed a way to get even to-to-bottom slices, and to slice the bread ahead of time to have them available when we're in a hurry to make a sandwich or toast a piece of bread. I do think this slicer guide is more durable than plastic guides, and I'm trying to get away from the use of plastic. The metal prongs definitely are more durable and offer options when it comes to the thickness of the slice. I prefer the wooden base to a plastic base. The width of the loaf being sliced can vary by placing the prongs in four different slots. However, some of my loaves are larger or smaller than the options provided, and so the loaf moves while being sliced, resulting in uneven top-to-bottom slices. Overall, I think this is the best choice given the non-electric alternatives. It takes some getting used to and stores easily,

Takes a little time to get used to using it, but the results are even slices. Works even with shaky hands. Easy to clean.

Once I went online I learned what the plexiglass “plates” were for. Instructions or at least a picture included in the item box would have been very helpful. I enjoy using the item now

I make my own sourdough bread (boule)style and for most loaves I have to cut them in half and then slice, because they are too wide. You also need a long bread knife . The standard length, just, works. I bought this item because the slices I was making, were just not uniform. This guide has definitely helped with the uniformity of the slices but I will say the process is not quite as easy as just running your knife through the loaf freehand. The sound of meta(knife) on metal(guide tines) as the blade cuts through the loaf is a little uncomfortable for me and the tines do bend some but can be bent back into place. As I said though ,it helps me get some nice thinner, even slices so I will continue to use it.

Wonderful concept that lacks some attention in the manufacturing process. The first flaw I noticed is a small corner of the lower metal fence area didn't get properly chrome plated (at least it appears that way). Why on earth stainless steel would need chrome plating is beyond me. It would be subject to chipping away over time.The 2nd, and more important, flaw noticed is at the tops of the metal fence rods. They were sheared off to length, yet the metal flashing from being cut has remained in place. This leaves a slightly sharp edge to one side of each rod that can be felt. While I'm not convinced it poses a strong cut risk, the potential is there.For the price being charged, I would expect none of these flaws to be found, yet they are. It'll work fairly well for what it's intended, simply lacks the finish that we've come to expect from quality products.

Works very well! Love the design and it holes just about any loaf size you have. It’s a nice size. I really like the two end pieces. So you can hold a bagel still or make sure ALL your bread slices are the same size! And with the metal slicing bars. I can even use an electric knife! I did NOT buy the one with the sharp bread knife.

Just got a bread machine so grabbed this slicer bc it looks nice. But the wood isn't cut big enough for the metal sides to be inserted on one side. I actually think it's a problem with the metal pieces but who knows. It won't go in either way so guess it doesn't matter. The metal is also all scratched up and discoloured on the end. Guess I'll be sending it back and looking for a better quality one. So sick of these amazon returns. Wish they'd work on quality control.
