I do a lot of bread baking, some loaves, some rounds. I have wanted a slicer, but did not want a narrow bamboo slicer, having no desire to do a lot of attempted and unsuccessful adjusting for big loaves in odd shapes, and have not seen a wide plastic slicer. The bamboo slicers have a tendency to drop splinters because you are literally carving away at their sides, and that held no appeal. I saw this "wood" slicer, WIDE, with a crumb catcher, at a great price, and ordered. Love it. So far, no splinters from the unknown and unnamed wood, but it is smooth with no obvious grain separation to catch a knife. It assembled easily, looks great, and is easy to clean. It accommodates regular and round loaves, large and small, and is very versatile in this regard. I am delighted with it, and recommend it, even though the wood is not named! It would also make a great gift for bread baker!

Gifted this to the sourdough maker in our family and she was very excited. She says this makes slicing much easier and she's able to get consistent slices for sandwiches now. The bamboo looks nice and doesn't smell bad. This is such a great product.

I got this about a month ago and it's... alright. It certainly serves its purpose, but there are little design elements that make it feel like a 1st generation design that hasn't been user tested.I got this primarily for the crumb-catching benefit, and for that it does work well. It catches about 80-85% of the crumbs, which is about as good as I would expect, given the fact that the rest sort of fly off while you're cutting. However, the grated insert that sits on top of the tray is hard to remove because it sits flush and there's no place to fit your fingers in to lift it up, as the slits are too small. A simple finger hole would have fixed this. When it comes to cleaning the tray out, the handle holes on the sides make it harder to direct into the trash can. I would prefer a drawer style catchment, though I know that would add to the cost. The slicing guide is less useful, in my opinion. The end wall that holds the loaf in place does not sit square, but wobbles back and forth, which doesn't seem like a big deal, but when you're cutting slices that are ¼" thick, it's the difference between a complete or partial slice. If the wall were to go through the grated insert and sit into a channel in the bottom catchment this wouldn't be a problem, but it just sits in a groove on top. The slice guides themselves are fine but you have to line them up in the same orientation as there are thick and thin sides that aren’t super easy to distinguish, and the way you're directed to do so is with subtle printed A/B lettering. An asymmetrical design would have been more intuitive. The little rubber feet bumpers started falling off literally within moments and I had to glue them on with gorilla glue. The bamboo of the cutting surface itself isn't super durable and is already scratching, but that's to be expected given the product specs. I also didn't think a dedicated knife holding slot would be something I'd want in one of these, but now I do wish it had.In all, I would be satisfied with this priced in the $20-25 range, but at $40 I expect more.

While this bread slicer is made specifically for Sour Dough rounds, I can tell you through experience that I have been able to use it for many other breads. I do a lot of bread baking and while I do Sour Dough, I have baked many types of other breads that do not necessarily come out like sour dough rounds. My rectangular breads slice perfectly in this slicer and due to the very well thought out design I can slice bread in many different thicknesses. The bamboo slicer is environmentally sustainable and is a great choice of wood for the slicer as it will last a long time with repeated Bread slicing and cleaning. One of the many features of this slicer is the ability to break down and store in a very small space. So, if you are lacking space int he kitchen it will take up very little room when stored. The slicer also has a crumb catch base and is very easily cleaned and maintained. I have used this for about 2 dozen fresh baked loaves, and it shows very little signs of wear, and I expect it to last for many years of use, and I consider this to be a very good buy and well worth the money spent.

Works great. Fully adjustable depending on the size and shape of the loaf you need to slice. Bulky when put together, but easily comes apart for compact storage. Makes nice equal slices every time. A must have for home bakers. Great item.

I have another item similar to this but not as wide. This is nice because you can do the non-standard loafs, round, for example. The slices are a little thicker than I like, even on the thinner option side. Also, could use a little more depth, my other one is a little deeper so it’s easier to get started at the top. This one does catch the crumbs better though. A bit of a give and take but it’s a good quality item. I do appreciate that the sides are marked with A and B. My other one isn’t marked so I’m always looking really closely at it so I don’t get get misaligned slices.

This is a well designed item. It's easily adjustable to the loaf size and all the pieces fit nicely into the base portion when you aren't using it, so it doesn't take up too much space. It's great that it catches the crumbs, so there is a lot less mess.It did come with a chemical smell, probably from whatever stain that they used to treat the wood. The whole thing was wrapped tightly in plastic, so I'm guessing they made it and then packaged it right away and the smell was sealed in there. After airing out for a bit it seems to be gone though.
