Works pretty well but the distance between the sides for wider loaves is longer than any of my bread knives

I really wanted to love this. I think if you were to use it for a single slice of bread or bagel it would be ideal. I wanted it to cut my sourdough more evenly. I had to stand the loaf on end to fit even the wider setting, not ideal, but also not a problem. It did take a few tries to figure out how to set it up as the instructions didn't say how, only about washing instructions. After some trial and error, I figured it out. Even with the more narrow setting this requires a pretty long knife, the instruction sheet says at least 10 inches. I have a long bread knife, and it was almost too short to maintain a back and forth motion without coming out of the guide. While cutting, the guide didn't feel very sturdy since it's only held up at the one end by the bamboo board. It did stay secure though. After each slice, removing the cut bread and then rearranging the bread to cut the next piece at the same size was sort of time consuming but it did allow for my width variety. Something else I didn't like is that the instructions said to hand wash everything, including the plastic cutting board. Personally, I like to dishwash everything. The way the board need to be set up, the base is elevated to be flush with the top of the bamboo tray so the crumbs still sit on top and aren't contained very well. I did really like how everything fit into the bamboo tray for storage. It was very convenient and compact. As someone who makes and cuts a lot of sourdough, this isn't a cutting guide I liked personally.

I finally ended my frustration of ridiculous bread slices and got this slicing guide. Man, this guy is heavy! I believe that if I take care of it, and do not allow the thin bamboo guide to warp (by leaving it in water or something) it will last forever. I love how it all breaks down to fit inside its own crumb tray. I also appreciate the variety of widths for slices - I could even slice a whole loaf in advance not changing the tines because I use different width bread for different purposes. Now, if you push your knife against the guide tines they will move over a bit so be mindful when slicing, but I don't feel like it ruins the experience. Could I get a rotary slicer that will also last forever and produce even more variety for my bread? Yes. Do I want to house yet another appliance? No.The only thing I would have liked to have is a dust cover. For now it will live in its very nice original cardboard box.

I often Bake my own Bread as I'm very conscious these days of what goes into what me and my family eat. Ever read the labels on Bread? Astounding! But since your visiting this Seller its obvious your reasoning is similar to mine. In addition living in the South, finding good Italian bread is the proverbial "Needle in the Haystack".The Pros: Well built with heavy duty laminated Plastic, and Compressed high quality Bamboo. The spacing options as related to the slice thickness works very well! There are Three widths that work very well with my end product.Cons?: Only One, The thickness forms are shared, meaning the cutting dies are shared so you have to cut your bread slices halfway through the loaf, then fit the bread loaf to get the same slice thickness for a single loaf. I would pay more to have additional cutting dies all the same thickness. Do I recommend this ~ Yes! Highly!

I've been baking bread at home for more than 40 years. In that time, I've used more than a dozen methods of slicing the bread. This item is the best slicer I've used. The product comes well and tightly packaged. The parts nest into each other, so it stores in a small space. NOTE: I recommend keeping the box for storage when not it use, as this keeps the house dust and pet hair off the slicer. The instructions are decent, but the photos are too small to be of much help. I had to use the "magnifier" function on my iPhone to be able to tell how to use the slicer. You can choose one of three slice thicknesses: Texas Toast (3/4"), Standard (1/2") and Thin (3/8"). For my regularly-baked loaves, the Standard thickness is best. Be sure both of the blade guide panels are oriented the same way. See my photo. The method of slicing is pretty straightforward, and the same used by most slicers. There is a series of slots into which you insert your bread knife, and this guides your knife's downstroke to slice. NOTE: the knife needs to be at least 10" long, otherwise it may not slice the entire width of your loaf. There are slots in the base that allow you to choose from three different loaf widths: 4.5", 5.5" and 6.5". This product can handle elongated rectangular pan loafs. It can also work well with round, artisan loafs. Thin baguettes will likely be to thin to be effectively held between the uprights, but you can still hold these loaves by hand. The slicer takes no more than 30 seconds to setup and break down. NOTE: insert your fingers into the handles cut in the ends of the crumb tray to pop the cutting board out of the nested position. The knife slots do a good job of holding the blade securely, but I would still slice slowly to ensure accurate slices. Slicing an entire loaf took me 2 minutes, at the 1/2" thickness. My favorite feature is the crumb tray in the base. Approx. 90% of all crumbs generating during slicing fell into the tray, and this made clean up MUCH easier.I have been washing the white plastic and bamboo board pieces, including the crumb tray/base, by hand. The plastic parts can be cleaned in the top-rack of your dishwasher, and I will likely do that every 2 or 3 uses. The bamboo parts are NOT dishwasher safe, nor are the safe for immersion in water. I used a damp paper towel. The only downside I have noted is the base/board is made of typical cutting board white plastic/nylon, and this board is already showing wear from use, with scratches and tears. I can't imagine it will last a long time, and I'm having to take care not to get tiny bits of plastic in my loaves. The product loses 1 star for this. All I can say is take care when slicing as you get to the bottom of the slice. The scratches and tears can also be a source of contamination, if they aren't cleaned properly and often.Overall, this is the best slicer I have used, and I can recommend it fully.
