Works but the cable is touchy as it's a little on the loose side.

Especially for this price, this is a very useful little thing to have in your store of PC bits for when you need it. Much easier than battling through heatsinks and removing cards to get at your onboard m.2 slots, if you even have one spare. This allowed me to swap around drives and clone them, even update the firmware which can be hit or miss with USB enclosures. There's nothing stopping you from using this as a permanent drive of course, although it will be limited to Gen 3x1 speeds, but for cloning, upgrading etc. it's ideally suited. As another reviewer noted the screw/standoff is a little odd, it's not like the one pictured and has to be screwed in from the rear of the card unlike a typical m.2 mounting screw, but that's a minor niggle.

Works ok enough, just not a fan of how the standoff works, It works backwards from how all others work and leaves the ssd a little loose.

This little wonder just sits atop my GPU with a little bit of flexible rubber in between to keep it in the PCIe slot. Plug in a low cost M.2 NVMe SSD and strap a heatsink on top, and I have a drive to power my home theater system. It does have that ancient green PCB color but you can't tell when the LEDs wash out the contrast. Also note that you'll have a "lean" no matter how you mount this due to the angled mounting of an M.2 drive in the slot, especially with the weight of a heatsink on it.

Got this to add a second NVMe drive to a Dell XPS 8940. The way the motherboard works it seems plugging this adapter in disables the NVMe port, meaning you can only have one at a time. Also, the computer was unable to boot off this adapter.

Simply works! The PCIe x1 interface will bottleneck it a bit, but it is still faster than SATA SSD.I bought this to use in an older Vostro 470 (H77 chipset) in order to use an NVME drive for future migration to a board that natively supports the NVME. I chose this unit because it is PCIe x1, and the Dell Vostro 470 doesn't have any others (except the x16 which houses a GPU).A couple people have responded to my question of compatibility AFTER I had already placed the order, stating that the minimum chipset is z97 and x97. I want to say that it worked without any special steps in my H77 motherboard. The BIOS can't see it, but Windows 10 does without any additional drivers (although Crucial has drivers if needed). If your board doesn't support PCIe booting, it will likely still work so long as you boot off another drive 1st.I have deducted one star due to the flimsy packaging (simple plastic bag tossed in a bubble envelope), and because the Assembly to screw in the SSD is counter-intuitive.Typically, the brass standoff is attached to the board, and you secure the SSD with a screw. In this case, the standoff comes loose, and you screw it to the board while notched into the SSD.

For the price, this was a great way to upgrade my old Intel i5 2500K system. I had to hack the BIOS to get the system to boot from this PCIe board using an NVMe SSD on it. But I'm limited by PCIe 2.0 speeds (PCIE 3.0 is double 2.0). Running this board in my system -- forcing the slot to x2 vs x4 in the BIOS is about the same speeds (see attached screenshots showing benchmark comparison between my WD Black HDD, Crucial SATA SSD, and an ADATA Falcon using a x1 PCIE board vs this board running at x2 and x4 speeds). This make 3 CableCC M.2 PCIE boards I've used now and all have worked flawlessly so far. Will update if there are any problems down the road.Best part is when I'm finally ready and able to find 3rd gen Ryzen CPU and mobo, I'll be able to just pop my shiny new NVMe drive in, boot to Safe Mode, and do some quick driver clean-up/updates and be rocking without full re-install ( ::crossing fingers:: )!

Basic simple pcie nvme adapter. Have used it with several different brands of key-M pcie nvme m.2 ssds. Fits in pciex4, x8, or x16 slots but from what I understand it only runs at x4. The cutouts allow it to overhang on the x4 slot. Speed is good enough for my purposes. I haven't noticed any overheating of the ssd with non demanding use. I can use it on some of my pcs as a boot drive however I found one time it was a bit temperamental when I added a second of these when I already had another as boot drive. I unplugged the new one and moved the first to a different slot then reinstalled the second. I'm assuming my bios was looking at the second thinking it was the boot drive. The pc bios determines if this is bootable. On a PC from 2010 I can use it to add a data drive (non-boot).

Very basic packaging and spartan looking item. It works fantastically! Comes with screw to retain drive. Just goes to show you that you don’t have to have a bunch of lights and shiny things on it to work well. It just works freaking great! Does not slow down the drive speed.

Despite the low price, this adapter works well in my system using Asus Prime B450M-A and Intel Intel SSD 660p. While the motherboard does have a M.2 slot, by using it will reduce the number of SATA connections by 2. Since I am using the IGP of the Ryzen 5 2400G, it frees up the PCIe slot to use with this adapter. A side advantage by using this adapter is making the M.2 more removable and portable than screwed on the motherboard. I can change boot drive to different OS much easier and remove it in different safe place from unauthorized access.
