Swapped the steel spring with this in a new Viper Express. I expected the cocking effort to increase and have noticeably more power. I wanted the increase in power for the shot shell. Unfortunately, the gun is easier to cock and while the first shot dieseled no others have. With the steel spring I was getting about 1 in 10 dieseling so it feels like this reduced the velocity of the piston. If so, the pellet has to be slower as well. No chrono and I can't judge on accuracy due to my lack of a steady hand but groupings seem worse while using a scope and pellets. It appears there are no real upgrade options for a stock Viper express. However, the install was relatively easy...Re-installed the steel spring after shooting pellets into the end of a large log to get a better comparison. Both the air and steel springs result in about the same penetration into the log, so no advantage to either on power. The steel spring did not diesel so no disadvantage to eithr (the new gun oil appears to have finally burned off). The air spring cocks a little easier, is quieter and may not have as much recoil. So if the goal is to reduce noise and cock a little easier then the air spring wins. If the goal is cost vs performance, then there is no need to spend money on the air spring.

Product fit, and works great. Some installation instructions would be nice, but I figured it out. For my old Silent CAT whisper. Remove the spring, the plastic insert that goes through the trigger assembly, and the spring perch inside the ram. Push the delrin (?) Ring down over the piston body toward the shaft end of the body, not the trigger assembly end. Put the body of the cylinder into the trigger assembly and slide it into the ram. You'll need a clamp to hold it together while you put the bin back in.

Order arrived in thirteen days, from Australia to Florida. Even though wrapped in soft packaging the gas ram was in excellent condition. Surprisingly, there were no instructions. When ordering read the red print in the description. This was the revised cylinder that is installed opposite of the video for the plastic trigger. When disassembling from the stock, be careful of the small nylon roller. It will fall out. Also, detach the rod that goes to the side plate of the trigger assembly, or it will detach itself when you decompress the spring. I recommend taking photos of before you start. You will need a spring compressor of some sort! I used a cheap 3' clamp from Harbor Freight. It worked, but barely, for the ram installation. You only need a small amount of movement to remove the retaining pin, but the installation needed about 1/4" and required a lot of pressure. I used a socket for a spacer, as shown in the video. My broken spring stuck out about two inches when released.I am satisfied with the conversion. The cocking stroke is smoother and requires about the same amount of effort. It appears to hit with more power than the spring, when shooting the same targets and spinners. The recoil is nicer, and the accuracy has improved, even though it was dime size at 33', the length of my basement range, with the spring. The noise level is different, sharper, but my wife says it sounds the same to her, upstairs. I only shoot .177 Crosman 10.5 gr pellets. The Premier Ultra Magnum and Piranha. These were accurate to 44 yards with the spring, I'll see with the gas ram.Only 75 rounds later, it took 6 to dial in the scope, all is well. Time will tell, any problems will be posted.I know this is lengthy, but hopefully it will help someone to make a decision.

I just got home and discovered my gas ram had been delivered 8 days early. I went on YouTube, watched the video 3 times and on the 4th time started following along. It all went well until I put the gun back together and pulled the trigger for the first time, and nothing happened. I brought it back to my shop to increase the pull weight on the trigger to see if that would make a difference. I turned the adjustment screw twice and boom! The gas ram exploded. It wasn’t hot, about 60 degrees Fahrenheit, it wasn’t having pressure applied at the side, and it certainly wasn’t taken apart of punctured. It blew the gun out of my hands, dismantled the trigger and put parts of it in all corners of the shop (I only found half of them), and damaged the part of the gun that holds the piston. I hate to write a negative review because I know lots of people have these rams in their guns and they work flawlessly but this is a serious malfunction. Luckily I only got one scratch from a piece of something and two ringing ears.Update: I forgot to update but I contacted the seller with photos of the damage and the next day a new one was in the mail. I have received it but decided to get a new gun and am going to put it in that. Their customer service was impeccable, all them asked for was a few photos and a brief explanation of what happened.Update: A couple weeks ago I went to install the replacement gas ram and it had leaked almost all of the gas out. I could compress it with my hands and when I released the piston it couldn’t even punch through a piece of construction paper. I contacted them and after a few questions and both parties coming to an agreement that something happened during shipping I got a full refund including shipping. While I haven’t has the greatest luck with these products I have been impressed by the build quality and their customer service.
