Seems like a very competent laptop. Not so much bloat-ware as some systems I've had. I like the keyboard and am learning to use the track-pad, instead of using a mouse. There were some problems not waking up from sleep, my solution was to set sleep to Never. Removed the McAfee AV after downloading and installing most of the stuff I'd need - Notepad++, Chrome and Firefox browsers, Adobe Acrobat reader, Apache Open Office, MuseScore, Android Studio, etc. Works well. My old laptop was another Core i5 but it's 7 years old and won't support W11. Fast CPU, lots of SSD hard drive, nice display, sufficient RAM. Nice Price, at least before the tariffs!Whoops! No touchscreen! But that's good! I hate touch-screens and wouldn't want one on my laptop.

Adorei!

It is a good computer. It is recommended for its price. The keyboard design is not very good. It can be better.

I gave this a 4 out of 5 because, immediately upon arrival, the 'U' key is a bit shifty, and does not always work. However, I was in a time-bind and could not wait for a replacement [also I already downloaded Windows and Norton onto the system by the time I realized the issue].The laptop itself is fast. There are a few key things that a consumer may want to be aware of that is not necessarily obvious from the product description:Dirt - The computer, this Lenovo in particular, attracts a lot of dirt on the key board and dust is incredibly attracted to it. I had the laptop in use for 3 days before it was showing dirt and fingerprints and the like. Also, given the design of the actual background to the keyboard, it is a little difficult to clean dirt off.User Agreements - The user agreements that you must agree and consent to before being able to even turn on the laptop are absolutely ridiculous. If I had known or seen these agreements before purchasing the laptop, I can honestly say I would not have purchased the laptop. There are several (at least 2) programs pre-installed on the laptop that, once you consent to the operating agreement, allow the programs to take images and voice recordings of you and upload them to a database for facial recognition and voice recordings. I have had my camera covered since day 1. If anyone figures out how to remove the program called Eula (I believe), please post on this comment board because that's the big kicker as far as these programs go. The user agreement gave directions for removing the programs and disabling the terms whereby you can be recorded visually and by voice. However, the directions were inaccurate. When one follows the directions, you cannot find the programs listed in the user agreement. I believe the programs are hidden within the system which makes me nervous.Battery - The battery, thus far, has been great. It will last longer than advertised (4.5 hours). I have gotten the battery to last over 6 hours.Microsoft Vista - Sucks. Particularly for a computer that's not touch screen. But I didn't want touch screen so I essentially ignore the Vista user face. It isn't user-friendly by any means, but once you get the basic hang of it, you can pretty much use this like a regular laptop with a regular operating system and not stupid Vista which makes no sense [and Microsoft should recall it].Keyboard layout - I am used to using short-cuts and quick keys a lot. Most of my computer use depends on such. However, with this keyboard (particularly with the 'Shift' key and the Arrow keys being so close together - closer than on a standard keyboard), it can sometimes be difficult to work at the same speed as I am used to because I often hit the wrong key (specifically, the Up Arrow is pressed often when 'Shift' was intended). That particular mix-up does actually tend to lead to further more annoying errors and then you begin typing in a different section or line than intended and if you don't look at the screen while typing, this can come back to bite you later.I haven't downloaded any extra 'Apps' on this laptop because, like I said, Microsoft Vista is stupid on a laptop like this and the apps were pointless to me. So I can't speak to that. I also don't use any of the apps already on the system. I use Internet explorer to get wherever online, and that pretty much helps me avoid having to use the Vista part of the Microsoft operating system entirely.Other than those few specifics, the laptop is generally pretty great. Works fast, no freezing or blue screens.

FORGET ABOUT SUPERFISH. It was a dumb move by Lenovo and they have admitted it. Google "Lenovo SuperFish" and the first hit is the Lenovo site from which you can download a program that will search for and remove Super Fish, if it's on your machine. Even before that your Norton Security program will have found and isolated it if it's on your new laptop. (It was on this laptop and I removed it. It wasn't on my C540 Lenovo All-in-One computer.)Since the 1980's I've owned a Commodore Vic-20, (which had less computing power than your current wristwatch), towers handmade by guys working out of storefronts, then Gateway and Dell towers, a Gateway/Verizon netbook, and HP and Lenovo Desktop units. The HP and Lenovo computers have similar specs and prices and the Lenovo screams past the HP, which is why I went Lenovo for this simple, entry level laptop. For the price, I'm very satisfied. Actually, price aside I'm happy. I wanted a plug and play laptop that did a little bit of everything well without challenges or complications. That's what I got.The unit was up and running within fifteen minutes of coming out of the box. Microsoft registration went smoothly. WiFi connection just needed my password. I removed the McAfee because I had a license left on my Norton and I prefer that. Downloaded and updated the Norton. Updated Windows. This runs Windows 8.1 and out of the box it needed about 70 updates, which took maybe three restarts. From there it's time to tinker. Got the brightness, the fonts, power management and all of that just right. But that's not essential to running the computer; it's just fun if you like to fine tune things. Without any tinkering it works fine.Lenovo has a lot of bloatware, but not as much as some companies and more than others. Bloatware does slow things down a bit but I just went from charm to charm, looking and uninstalling. Every now and then you find something interesting. I got rid of most of the junk and whatever is left, (I'm too old and tired to delete anything that looks like it might be important or necessary, or fatal), doesn't appear to effect performance. The track pad is no better or worse than anyone else's. Almost everyone uses a wireless mouse anyway. If you have to use it the track pad was serviceable. The keyboard is great, with a solid positive touch that is sort of one of the distinguishing qualities of Lenovo products, even the less expensive ones. Sound is good if you are mostly interested in making sure it's loud enough that you can hear it.Like any user I have a bunch of favorite programs that have to be loaded. Everything I use downloaded and installed without a hitch. I'm keeping this laptop pretty trim, so I didn't fill it up with stuff. And that was that. It's sharp; it's fast; it's super-fast for the price. I had two open NCAA brackets updating, three NCAA gamecasts going, and a live game stream running and was still able to do some browsing and emailing without a hitch. Can't ask for much more than that.
