This M.2 to SATA adapter card has been a lifesaver for my NAS/home server! My Minisforum motherboard didn't have any SATA ports, so I needed a way to connect my drives. This card was the perfect solution. Installation was a breeze, and it works flawlessly. I currently have 4 SSDs running through it, and I'm planning to add 2 HDDs soon. So far, everything is working great, and it's exactly what I needed to expand my storage. Some users might mention the activity light, but it doesn't bother me at all. My PC case has a tinted tempered glass side panel, and the light isn't distracting enough to be a problem.

If you’re looking to expand your system’s storage capabilities or repurpose an M.2 slot for additional SATA drives, this M.2 to SATA3.0 Adapter Card (featuring the ASM1166 controller) is a solid pick. It delivers reliable 6Gbps performance, offers broad operating system compatibility, and includes some convenient features like onboard status LEDs.Key FeaturesASM1166 ChipsetThe ASM1166 is a well-regarded SATA controller known for stable performance and straightforward driver support. It ensures that each SATA port can achieve up to 6Gbps transfer speeds (depending on your drives’ capabilities).M.2 M Key (PCIe 3.0 Interface)This adapter is designed to plug into an M.2 M Key slot (commonly found on modern motherboards), converting that M.2 interface into multiple SATA ports.Note that it requires an M.2 slot that supports PCIe x4 bandwidth—not an M.2 slot dedicated to SATA-only SSDs. Always check your motherboard specifications to ensure proper compatibility.Multiple SATA PortsThe card typically provides up to 4 or 6 SATA ports (depending on the specific model), allowing you to connect multiple 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drives. It’s an excellent solution for systems running out of native SATA ports.Smart Indicator LEDsThe built-in status LEDs give quick insight into drive activity and power status. It’s a helpful troubleshooting feature when you need to confirm a drive is recognized or actively transferring data.Broad OS CompatibilityOS X, Windows, and Linux support is explicitly mentioned, and the ASM1166 chipset generally works out-of-the-box with most modern operating systems. Windows 10/11 may install drivers automatically, while Linux typically recognizes the chipset natively.Installation & SetupPhysical Installation:Locate your motherboard’s M.2 slot that supports PCIe x4 (or x2) for NVMe drives (M Key).Carefully insert and screw down the adapter card.Connect SATA cables to the card and then to your storage drives. Some boards may provide a mounting screw for the adapter; if not, ensure you have a compatible screw on hand.Driver Installation:In most cases, modern operating systems will recognize the ASM1166 controller automatically. If you run into issues, you may need to download the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website. On Linux, it usually appears as a standard AHCI controller; additional setup is rarely needed.Performance & ReliabilitySpeed:Each SATA port supports speeds up to 6Gbps, matching the theoretical max of SATA III.In real-world usage, expect read/write speeds in line with your specific SATA SSDs or HDDs—SSD speeds typically peak around 500–550MB/s, while HDDs will be lower.Stability:The ASM1166 chipset is known for stable performance. During extended testing (file transfers, backups, and streaming data), no hiccups or dropouts were observed.Pros & ConsProsEasy Upgrade Path – Perfect if you’ve used up your motherboard’s SATA ports or want to repurpose an unused M.2 slot.High-Speed SATA (6Gbps) – Matches standard SATA III speeds across all ports.Reliable Chipset – The ASM1166 is widely supported and has a good track record.Smart Indicator LEDs – Quick visual confirmation of drive activity and status.Cross-Platform Support – Works with macOS, Windows, and Linux, broadening compatibility.ConsRequires Correct M.2 Slot – Needs an M Key slot with PCIe x4 support; not compatible with B Key or SATA-only M.2 slots.Space Constraints – In some compact PC cases or mini-ITX builds, adding a protruding adapter card plus SATA cables might be tight. No NVMe Pass-Through – This is purely for converting an M.2 PCIe slot into SATA ports; you can’t use it to run an NVMe SSD directly.Final ThoughtsThe M.2 to SATA3.0 Adapter Card with the ASM1166 controller delivers on its promises: stable 6Gbps connectivity, easy installation, and universal OS support. It’s a practical solution for anyone needing extra SATA ports—especially in systems with limited motherboard connectivity or specialized form factors like small servers, NAS builds, or custom workstations. Just be sure your motherboard’s M.2 slot is the correct type (PCIe M Key), and you’ll be up and running with multiple additional SATA drives in no time.Highly recommended for users seeking a straightforward and efficient way to expand SATA storage through an M.2 slot.

Plugged in 6 hard drives! Works perfectly and have no issues. I recommend holding it when plugging and unplugging sata cables as it flexes a little bit.I am currently using this plugged in on a M.2 to PCIe expansion card. So I basically can have 4 of these simultaneously!Highly recommend!

Very thin PCB and they had to attach a rigid piece for support so it doesn't bend, the SATA ports themselves are still very flimsy. You have to do some cable management trickery to make sure the SATA ports remain at 90 degrees relative to PCB.Still, no connectivity or other issues were observed and the card works flawlessly. In fact, it works better than more expensive PCIE to SATA (SAS) adapters solde for x3-4 times the price of this one.

Funciona perfecto, lo único malo es que los conectores son extremadamente frágiles y se doblan con facilidad. La velocidad de tranferencia es excelente y eso era lo que quería.

It works great, I was able to turn my old pc into a NAS thanks to this expansion, but keep in mind this is a pcie 3.0 x2 to 6 sata ports.Pcie 3.0 x2 is about 2GB/s transfer speed, which is perfectly fine for 6 HDD, but if you put SSD on this, they can transfer around 500MB/s each, so that 2GB/s transfer speed gets saturated real quick. The product itself though, works as advertised.
