I’m an advanced beginner sewist. I bought this pattern to take a full-day men’s shirt making class. The instructor teaches shirt B from this pattern (the long-sleeved shirt with the regular cuffs,) and I can understand why. It’s a perfect classic shirt, and the measurements seem to be somewhere in the realm of normal. I am making this shirt for myself, not a man, since I’m fresh out, so I went for a size M, and it will end up being a little oversized like I want it. I’m 5’7”, 37”- 32”- 38”, and 136#. You can see from my measurements why a men’s shirt isn’t such a bad idea for my physique! (In my next life, I would like a waist, please! lol)Of course I picked some crazy dark floral with dragonfly fabric, and made contrasting cuffs and collar from bright yellow-gold corduroy, so it will be downright fabulous. It’s only 2/3 done, so I don’t yet have a photo worth showing you.The pattern creates a classic men’s dress shirt, with all the typical details a dress shirt should have - a pocket, 2-sided yoke, back pleat, sleeve pleats, cuffs, collar, plackets, etc. I’ve never sewn a shirt like this before, but now that I am almost finished with my first one, I can see why it has so many parts and is so complex. It would take an experienced sewist 4-5 hours to complete this long-sleeved shirt, I’m guessing. It’s going to take me about 10 or so, but this is the first time I’ve made plackets, a yoke, cuffs, or a collar. It’s much more complex and fiddly than anything else I’ve ever made.I recommend this pattern, at least for the shirts. It creates a great-looking shirt with all the classic (and tedious!) details.
