Massive DC spike that you will have to work around on the receive path. Otherwise, it is what it is. You will want to use the website they offer you to learn as much as you can if you've never worked with an SDR. There is a huge learning curve, but it does what it says it does.

If you are using a RTL-SDR dongle, you are missing out on all the fun. Go on over to great Scott gadgets dot com and start looking through the learning section under Hackrf one. This is a very capable device if you are willing to take the time to learn. Mike Ossman has some really good YouTube videos as well. If you don’t already know, he is the creator of this device. It is open source. If you know someone that can print circuit boards for cheap, you can find the board schematics and hardware on GitHub. Start making your own hackrf boards and sell them for 50$ less than these guys. Capitalism right? If you want to get into ads-b or sub-ghz cloning and playback, recon scanning, you should go straight for a portapack h2 as well. These are a lot of fun but at the same time, can get you in a lot of trouble. Use responsibly.

As the title says it works better than the RTL-SDR v3 with a significantly larger receiving range, and quite high bandwidth. I personally recommend getting a good set of antennas before buying this as it wont magically pull signals your SDR stick cannot.

Very happy now that I can sweep through the entire spectrum with the sweep mode.

I got this specifically to use with a Portapack which I should have soon. I did however assume that I’d be able to use it with some SDR software just like a cheap dongle, and listen to some ham bands. Granted I’m a relatively new ham and it’s my first time using SDR software, but to try 7 different programs and have little to no luck is disheartening.Hopefully once it’s mated to the Portapack it will do everything it’s supposed to do. If you’re buying this instead of a basic cheap dongle, BIG mistake!
