Yea, I purchased this in Oct 2024 for my 351w build when it came time to put the distributor in had to replace gear with a bronze gear cuz roller cam, i got from jegs that would not fit, it was too big. The diameter was way to small and the gear slid right off. I know it wasn't expensive but I was trying to save a little. Going ahead with the msd is what I should done. They won't work with me cuz it's over the 30 purchase date.

Distributor itself is good quality the cap and rotor low quality and poor fit. Easy to install the distributor. I installed it in a 1994 351w that I switched from injection to carburetor.

They don't bother to tell you if won't work for fuel injection. You think they would put that in the discription. I now own 3 of these. One worked at first then stopped the second one never worked and finally the third one worked great so I was able to finally diagnose why my truck would not run. When I determined that the timing was right, I had spark and I had fuel was completely stumped as to why it wouldn't run. I finally decided that the injectors were not operating. I started looking for a cam or crank shaft sensor that told them when to fire and couldn't find one. Looked up what told the injectors when to open. It is the distributor which I removed to install this hei unit. Now granted fuel injection is rare on a 1988 ford but my f350 with 351w has it for each individual cylinder. I thoroughly read the instructions with each one of the three I got never even suggested anything about fuel injection and not working. Then the fact I had to get 3 to finally one that would work long enough to diagnose it is another flag. Of course by the time I got to working on it each time the return window and past and I had installed them also. In my experience you had better be ready to buy multiple ones till you get the one that works and you had better do it right away. If you have that patience and time you may want to consider it. It is a nice looking unit, I was surprised that they could be made at the price I bought them for. The coil is what went bad in the first two so I suspect they have a problem with the coil ( I test them with an ohm meter). Another word of caution the unit is huge at about double the size of the original (which is just the distributor not the coil and distributor together) there is hardly any room for it and an extremely tight fit with very little room to adjust the timing. I am not sure that I would have been able to time the ignition correctly if it had worked i doubt I could turn it 15 degrees of a circle. But that is on my truck others may have more room. The biggest hindrance in turning it is the vacuum advance. It sticks out quite aways.

Fixed a misfire I had at WOT. A lot smoother running engine than with the points distributor it replaced. Only time will tell about durability. Highly recommend if you have the room for it. Distributor is pretty large .
