The item was defective ... $48.00 to return it. Hardly worth the while for a pci expansion slot M.2 adapter which cost me $31.00 and change. Naturally buyers won't return defective items because of the shipping cost. I would say that this is a nefarious scam. Amazon.ca shouldn't deal with this outlet ... ultimately they will be held responsible. Gordo, Metro Vancouver, BC

I have successfully used this to expand NVMe storage on multiple systems. It lets you install up to 4 NVMe drives in a PCIe x16 slot, BUT... you need to make sure the slot supports all 16 lanes (i.e. it is not x16 physical but only x4 electrical), AND that your BIOS has a setting for PCIe bifurcation that allows you to configure the slot for 4+4+4+4.Many desktop motherboards only support full 16 lanes on the primary x16 slot, which may already be occupied by your GPU; secondary x16 slots might only allow x8 or x4 connections. Some CPUs also restrict the allowed bifurcation settings. Check your motherboard maker's web site for compatibility!If your motherboard and CPU meet the requirements, this card is a cost-effective way to add NVMe slots to an existing system.
