I have a pair of Pioneer HPM 60 speakers containing a 10" woofer, a mid-range and two tweeters. They are in excellent condition except that the woofer surround foam had rotted, which I learned is extremely common and is simply what happens to foam surrounds after so many years. You will know if you have this problem by simply poking the surround with your finger - if it falls apart, they are rotted and unplayable. Either dump the entire enclosure or repair/replace the foam surrounds, that was the Q.After searching, I selected the Speaker Foam Edge Repair Replacement Kit from Simply Speakers. If you spend any time looking over their site you will see that they do a whole lot of this, and for many brands and types of speakers. They even have installation videos to show you exactly how to do it. I played the video several times, found the exact foam surround replacement kit for my speakers, ordered the product, and off we went!It took me quite a bit of time to remove the old speaker surround(mainly the glue) although you can do it from the front, which is great as the Pioneers don't come apart! I probably "over-did" the part about cleaning off the old dried surround glue, but that is kind of how I do things. I was also nervous about getting the new surround glued properly and then centering it over the voice coil so it wouldn't rub - I thought I probably only had one good chance and if I messed up, the woofer would be ruined.BOTTOM LINE: this is one of those deals where it goes exactly like they tell you on the video, they tell you everything you need to know, and it is actually easier than you thought it would be!! (Like I said, it took me more time than I had estimated, but if I got a good result then I would not begrudge spending some additional time). It all went smoothly, everything came together easily, and the final result is perfect - I have my vintage speakers back in perfect form again! Now that I know how easy it is to do and how certain it is to achieve a successful result, I would do this again in a heartbeat! It was worth the effort, and don't forget that the cost of the surrounds is really very nominal. Great result, low cost, it doesn't get much better than this!
