This is a very nice monopod, I trust it with my sigma zoom lens and like the fact it adjusts up and down smoothy and quickly, no noise to scare off the birds I'm photographing. The button release is only required when lowering the monopod, yet you can put your foot on one of the legs and easily lift it up without toouching and locking knobs or buttons. It does not come with a head and I purchased a tilt only head (Sirui L-10) over a ball head as I didn't want my camara tilting right and left and having to deal with controlling extra degrees of freedom that need not be moved. I just wanted a controlled resistance for up and down, and rotation. Here was the challenge. The photography shop that recommended the mount said I could use the L-10 head to meet my needs and the base of this monopod would allow for the rotation. This is partially true, but the drag on the base ball of the monopod causes the base to unscrew. This leaves me with applying "blue thread locker" to the threads, and tightening the base with padded pliers. I would suggest if you want rotation, buy a head that does the tilt AND rotate to avoid the threads moving on the base of the mono pod. The next item is the spring loaded release at the bottom that allows you to tilt the monopod unit while the base stays as is, not sure what this was designed for as you can't lock it in the non-stationary position, you have to hold it up (two arrows denote that this part moves up and down). Without a locking feature I can't figure out a use model, once you engage the tilt it will revert back to a vertical lock once you pass the monopod back to it's home position. The final item is a small nit, while it has a very nice zipper bag to carry the unit, I have to remove the head unit or just leave the head unit sticking out and the top of the bag unzipped - would of been nice if they allowed for a head unit within the bag. This unit is sturdy enough to sling my full size DSLR and heavy 600mm lens over my shoulder, it's light weight but plenty strong. If you wanted to hook it to your backpack without the case you do need to remember it has no lock to keep it from extending by it's own weight if supported on an upper end, it will extend as you walk. You would need to support it below the estending part probably inverted with the feet up.

I like the quality and like how smooth it is for adjusting up and down. This is amazing.
