This might be a good “go, no go” gauge, but it’s really not very accurate for measurements.

It does it works, but it can easily fall in parts if don’t handle it properly. Don’t buy if you are doing high precision work

My expectations were that I could measure to 1/2 mm or so beneath a 60 mm rim. For the price, it does a good job with that. I didn’t want to bang up a good caliper and depth base. I’d probably go with a digital tire-tread gauge if its span was sufficient.
