I got this tire carrier kit for my 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK, and it worked good overall. It’s solid and holds my spare tire securely with no rattling, which was a big upgrade from the factory setup. I can tell it’ll handle larger tires without stressing the tailgate.I made the mistake of trying to install it myself, and it wasn’t as easy as I hoped. Getting the tire in the correct location was a pain, especially since the bolt carriage doesn’t extend very far. I had to mess with it a lot to get it positioned right. If you’re not comfortable with installs, I’d say get a professional to do it. Still, it’s a good product once it’s set up.

You need more hands. Maxed out settings barely allow for a wider tire. Vertical adjustment will allow for 37inch. 3rd brake light relocation means you have to deal with the light everytime to take the spare off and on, so every tire rotation. Quality of parts is ok, bolts have too much slop, alignment of holes on brackets aren't square. Took 3 different size sockets for similar size bolts, 12, 13 & 14mm. Instructions are low quality black and white, low res photos. For the cost and potential solutions that the product would resolve, it actually introduces other problems that really shouldn't be. The best part about the product is the hinge upgrade, that's it. Feels like two different R&D divisions designed separate parts and didn't really talk to the other.

Super easy to install. You will need to replace the tailgate catch, the factory one won’t hold a bigger tire.

This was easy to install and looks great. No comparison to factor wheel carrier. This thing is beefy and solid. Get you one.....

I bought this to replace my 2 in one offroad bumper with swing gate carrier. This is far better. Keeps it all attached to the jeep instead and is extremely solid. My only issue is the bolt carriage to carry the tire does not extend very far. You have very little depth to work with for large tires. So if you have large tires 33+ and rims that are more situated towards the outside vs inside towards the jeep you may have a bad time. I'm running 33s on stock jeep 2012 rims and I had to make some modifications to make my spare hold on. And it juuuustt barely worked. 35s in the spring so I'm sure I'll have to change it again.

If Rough Country gets back to me, I’ll update this. Right now, Garbage!!Unboxing, it looks the part. Initial installation was easy. The instructions were a little sketchy when it came to the tailgate attachment, but I figured it out.The first problem occurred when I went to put the lugs into the tire carrier. There was no way to install them in order to mount the tire! Remember I said the instructions were sketchy? So now it’s Saturday afternoon and RC is closed and I can’t mount my spare tire.It went from bad to worse when I was cleaning up and checking out the sturdiness of the hinges. I opened the tailgate in my garage and the tailgate check came out of the body! Then it broke as I tried to put it back in!! The hinges allow the door to open further than the OEM hinges and now to need a new tailgate check! To summarize, can’t mount the spare due to bad instructions or missing parts, and a broken tailgate check. Right now I wish I had bought the Rugged Ridge one instead.

Looks great and makes a solid mount for oversized tire. I had to elongate the bottom left mounting hole of the steel bracket that mounts on the tailgate. It wouldn’t line up do to hitting the top of the hinge. The only other problem was the stock wheels with no backseat to speak of I could only get one mounting bolt though the tire mount. I use the second one as a pinch bolt. The upside was the stock anti-vibration rubber tubes still work great, just took a small slice out of the one over the hinge.Another extra I didn’t see in the write up was it has a couple extra stops to hold tailgate open at less than full. Nice when someone has parked a little to close to fully open.Overall very pleased and very well made.
