This is a workhorse. It surprised me that the motor is 3 hp, not 5hp. It is advertised as 5hp at the time I purchased it, and as of the date of this review. So far, however, I've not had a power or torque issue. The cover for the belt is poorly designed. The cover is needed to keep dust/chips out, but the belt rubs against it. This degrades the belt and rattles the cover, which makes an annoying racket. Also, sometimes stock gets stuck in the planer. This sometimes requires lowering the table to remove the stock. Although a dust collector is required, a lot of chips never get "collected" and quickly build up on the floor. That said, I'm glad I upgraded from my 13" Dewalt planer.

So far its been a really nice planner...Im glad I paid a little extra and got the spiral head. It planes real nice , smooth has great power doesn't bog down and is very quiet....My only complaint is one of the main wheels its very smooth. my guess is when in came out of the mold the didn't file the joint and it makes for a bit of a rough roll around on my shop floor. other than that im very happy with its performance. I have ran over 900 feet of wood through it so far and have not had any trouble or issues with it. It is very quiet and smooth cutting. The spiral cutter head is the way to go. I have only ran some very rough pine through it so far with out any chip out or snipe. I have had to turn the blades due to the type of wood I was planning. It came off of an old saw mill Wood deck and I found out a little too late that it had alot of metal shavings ground into the wood. It was not a hard task to rotate the indexable inserts and was back in business in less that 30mins. I am very pleased with it, but planning on getting a digital indicator for the thickness adjustment.
