Review: Silurian MPPT Solar Charge Controller, 12V/24V Adaptive, with USB+Type-C LCD Display for Li-Ion, Lead-Acid, and Li-Fe-Phosphate Battery Charging, DC Connector Quick Charge Connector (20A)Rating: 4.5/5The Silurian MPPT Solar Charge Controller is a compact and efficient device that stands out for its versatility and ease of use. This 20A solar charge controller is designed to work with a variety of battery types, including Li-Ion, Lead-Acid, and Li-Fe-Phosphate (Lifepo4), making it a great choice for a wide range of applications, from RVs and boats to off-grid solar systems.Pros:Versatility in Battery Types:The controller's ability to charge multiple battery types is a significant advantage. Whether you're using Li-Ion, Lead-Acid, or Li-Fe-Phosphate, this controller can handle it with ease. This adaptability makes it a flexible solution for different energy storage needs.Multiple Connection Options:The Silurian MPPT Solar Charge Controller offers several ways to connect solar panels and loads. This feature is particularly useful if you have a variety of panel configurations or if you need to integrate additional devices into your system. The multiple connection points ensure that you can set up your solar system in a way that best suits your needs.User-Friendly LCD Display:The controller comes with a clear and informative LCD display that shows real-time data such as battery voltage, current, and charging status. The display also includes USB and Type-C ports, which allow you to charge your phone and other USB devices directly from the controller. This is a handy feature for staying connected while on the go.Easy Setup and Use:One of the standout features of this controller is its ease of setup and operation. The instructions are straightforward, and the controller is intuitive to use. Even if you're new to solar systems, you should be able to get this controller up and running without much trouble.Quick Charge Connector:The DC connector quick charge feature is a nice touch, especially if you need to rapidly charge a battery or device. This can be particularly useful in situations where you have limited sunlight or need to top up your battery quickly.Cons:Lack of Clear Electrical Information:The one downside I've noticed is the absence of clear electrical information on the side of the controller, such as the amperage rating. This can be confusing if you have multiple controllers that look similar but have different amperage ratings. I have another controller from a different brand that looks almost identical to this one, and the only way to tell them apart is by checking the manual or the display. It would be much more convenient if the amperage and other key specifications were clearly marked on the controller itself.Overall Impression:In summary, the Silurian MPPT Solar Charge Controller is a solid choice for those looking for a reliable and versatile solar charge controller. It works well with various battery types, offers multiple connection options, and is user-friendly. The inclusion of USB and Type-C ports is a practical addition that enhances its functionality. The only drawback is the lack of clear electrical information on the controller, which could lead to confusion if you have multiple units. Despite this minor issue, the Silurian MPPT Solar Charge Controller is highly recommended for both beginners and experienced users in the solar energy field.Would I recommend it? Yes, definitely. It's a good balance of features, performance, and ease of use, making it a valuable addition to any solar setup.

This controller is small and compact. Using it with an electric fence for my garden instead of the controller that was included with the fence. This one is better at charging, preventing over/under voltage, etc.

After switching out an old solar battery charging controller, a simpler non-MPPT that could not handle LiFePO4 batteries for this one, I can say it was an excellent move. And at this price, no reason not to.It also let me switch from older lead acid gel cells to LiFePO4 batteries, an change I'd been wanting to do. These LiFePO4 not only weight less, but they can tolerate partial charging, deep discharge, and repeated charge cycles way better. But the unit's MPPT means much better charging control and regulation. So it is a winner on both fronts. Now that I've had it up for a while, what I'm seeing is better conversion for the same solar panel when exposure time or intensity is not as good thanks to season shift into winter. That's a huge plus.I do like the display panel information, and the programming controls. Well thought out, very logical, and simple to use. I've yet to find anything I don't like about this unit. it is an all-around good product, and I give it five stars.

Because of temperature, this unit cannot be used in a vehicle! This unit can only accept input from photovoltaic panels. You may not use this controller to charge a battery from the alternator or any other DC source. This may may/may not affect your application.

Truth be told, I haven't installed this yet. I have a small tool shed away from power and I have about six used solar panels to install on the roof. But here is what I like about this little charger. First off is the size of the screen... actually big enough to read. What is not big enough to read is the instruction brochure. You will need a bright light and magnifying glass. On the side you can plug in a Type A and a Type C USB cable to charge your phone or whatever. You don't always find that on a twenty odd dollar solar charger. This unit can handle input power at up to 20 amps at either 12 or 24 volts. That would power a small cabin off grid. This controller can charge any type solar storage battery and is programmable for different setups. Under the front plastic shield are mounting lugs for the solar input, battery, and loads. There is also a port on the bottom for a barrel connector for a small solar input less than 3 amps and another for output for a small load. Not sure I will really use those but they are handy.Lastly there are four good mounting holes on the case to install this wherever you want. All in all, a pretty good charge controller for the price. It is very versatile.
