Recently after resurrecting my old stereo system I discovered that the foam surrounds for both of my 1990 Sony SS-U511AV 12" woofers and passive radiators were split open in several places - never saw something like that before. So I searched Amazon to find replacement speakers and discovered the Simply Speakers foam repair kit. I watched a Simply Speakers video on YouTube on how to do the repair and decided to order. I cleaned off the old foam before the order arrived, then after I received the order I installed the new foam the same evening. I let it all dry even more overnight and installed the repaired speakers the next day - works great! For my speakers, it seemed that the original foam was fastened behind the cone and there was a strip still left after I trimmed off the old foam that looked pretty good and I did not want to chance damaging the cones, so I left that old strip there. I had to trim about half of the flange off for the frame side of the foam (about 1/4") - just used a sharp scissors - no problem - the instructions do mention that it may be necessary. For each speaker, I glued the new foam on top of the cone, then after dry, glued the frame side. My cones all centered by themselves - I did periodically check for any binding by pushing on the dust cap as I was tamping down the foam on the frame during initial drying. Never any binding. I got a little excess glue here and there but no big deal - grill covers are still like new and cover all that up. Great product - thanks Simply Speakers!

I almost just bought new speakers for the cabinet but decided to give this a shot. I used this kit to repair two Sony SS-U591AV. Sound great but look repaired (good thing the covers are in great shape.:) The glue tends to get everywhere as others said so be careful. Do use disposal gloves gloves or it will be all over your hands. The glue does dry clear so if you get a little on the front no big deal. I did have to trim outer ring a bit but was easy to fit. Someone recommended using a pot lid to help press the foam to the speaker frame. This worked well.Took a few hours to make the repair, hardest part was cleaning off old foam and glue. Definitely easy dyi project with great results.

Order the exact size , it'll be much easier and I used a pot lid to hold the foam down while it dried .

I used this on my 20+ year old speakers. Sony model SS-U631AV. If you're looking to repair some old speakers with damaged foam this is a decent deal. As far as I can tell you can use these for any 12" speaker system. I would suggest you Google foam vs cloth. I went with this as these speakers came equipped with foam originally. There is a bit of a learning curve to placing and gluing these in place. There is a fine line between having patience for applying the glue and connecting the foam before the glue gets too tacky for a good seal. I would recommend using latex or latex free gloves in case you get the glue on your hands.

This kit arrived quickly and was complete with all needed parts, glue, and instructions. Do yourself a favor and look at the company's online instructional videos, they are very helpful. Just FYI, I had to trim the outer diameter of the foams to fit in my speaker frames but the inner-diameter's fit to the cone was fine. There is plenty of glue in the kit which was a good thing. I repaired the speakers on two different evenings about a month apart. I used less than half a tube of glue on the first two speakers. I found that the opened tube had dried out when I got around to fixing the other two. I was really nice having the extra tube provided! The repairs made nice solid speaker drivers again. They sound like new. Making them look like new would take some practice as the glue can go everywhere, but overall this is an excellent option to restore your old speakers. It's nice having my Sonys back!

The directions were really helpful and the material fit and worked well. If you follow the directions and don't rush it, rush it and the glue gets messy, your speakers will function like new. Save some money, if it is only the foam ring on your woofers that is damaged repair them with this kit.
