I purchased 2 of these for different projects. The pins in the CF card slot were not even at all so when I installed a CF card it pushed one of the pins out the back of the connector grounding it out and causing the disk to not work. That said I popped the card in the other adapter and it worked just fine. As others have said there may be some quality control issues.

I received the SinLoon CF HD adapter and was not able to make it work with a 2GB CF card also purchased from Amazon. The CF card worked fine in a USB media card reader. I purchased a different brand of CF HD adapter and that device worked fine. When I looked at the SinLoon CF HD adapter under a microscope, the circuit board soldering had a lot of defects. It wasn't worth the cost to return.

Adapter arrived broken. I didn't discover this by initial visual inspection and didn't get to my project until the return period expired. I connected the CF and the device 44pin connecter and there were issues communicating with the CF. Inspecting with magnification glasses, I found poor solder quality. It looks like the solder joints were joined by hand instead of a hot air solder blower. I found a broken solder joint on the SMD transistor 2A (Pic 1) and an on 102 (Pic 2), two of the legs are connected by overlap soldering (unless this is by design). Because of the cost, I'm giving this rating a 2 instead of 1. If you have time to wait for a replacement to ship, feel free to roll the dice. If not, I would avoid.

I intended to use this adapter for an old computer; I've used similar adapters for other computers and those always worked. This adapter worked on its first use, but once I went to use the computer (and adapter) again, the computer could not detect a valid storage device. I then tried the adapter in other computers, and the problem followed the adapter.

It’s a bit of trial and error with these devices, CF cards, and host machines. After trying a few different CF cards I found one that would work on my old Pentium III system and was able to install both Windows and Linux. Just do your homework and be patient with trying different cards.

I think that this item is just the same as all the other ones.I bought a CF-IDE notebook adapter. Died within the day.. Bad solder connection ? I mean, these are passive adapters for the most part.Took me 4 hours+ of debugging to figure it out. I think all the resellers use the same product and they are all weak at the solder joints. One of the other reviewers suggested choosing the adapters where the board is sandwiched by the solder pins. I think I agree with that and will try that instead

I bought the IDE 33 pin (2.5" hard drive replacement) to Compact Flash. The biggest issue is that in my older laptop the computer didn't recognize the drive at all. In my newer laptop with this in an enclosure it didn't recognize upon mount, once I did some formatting it kept ejecting and reconnecting itself. Had to return.ALSO I wouldn't recommend this model - rather - get one that has the 2 rows of IDE pins split on either side of the PCB. The solder joints were too large on the bottom side that this put way too much pressure on the IDE connector.

Replaced an old 1.2GB spinning disk with a 4GB CF card on an old pentium compaq armada laptop that I use to reprogram old 2-way radios, worked fine

I have an old digital recording device which uses an internal 2.5" IDE laptop hard drive. The drive, being over 20 years old finally died so I went looking for replacement options. After doing some reading it seems like Compact Flash cards are a drop-in replacement, I just needed and adapter (already had a bunch of old CF cards around.)This did the trick. Just slide a card in, and plug the adapter into the original IDE port. Note that while the connector on the adapter is keys (missing pin) the Pin 1 orientation isn't labeled to be careful you've got them aligned correctly. Now enjoying faster, silent storage!* I tried this with two CF cards, a 1Gb and 4GB. The 1GB did not work, but the 4GB worked great. I'm not sure what the compatibility issue was but it seems to be card specific. YMMV.
