As a cheaper back-up to the brand-name sliding glove my son uses, I tried one of the many off-brand models. They were surprisingly good quality - they were stitched well, the velcro sticks well, and the finger area is stiff to prevent injuries when sliding. The concept of a sliding glove is relatively simple - it prevents your fingers from bending when sliding. The glove material is stiff and has a metal support inside. The velcro wraps around the wrist and stays put.In terms of size, it's slightly smaller than the one my son has, so it won't cover the wrist as much. But since the goal is to protect the fingers, it isn't a big deal. The black color matches his other one, so it will be a nice backup if he needs it. He's only used it a few times, but it seems to be durable and thick enough to last a while. Considering the much lower cost, it's a worthwhile investment since they're fairly simple items that shouldn't cost that much to begin with.If you're looking to save money for an item that most kids have but don't really need, this is a great way to save money while still allowing your kid to feel like they have the protective gear they want.

Our family is in their baseball era. My son wanted a sliding glove, because it's all the rage right now with his friends who play baseball. At seven and eight years old, they aren't really using the glove so much for actual sliding than they are using it for more of a conversation and status symbol piece. Either way, the glove is thick, heavy and well made. He's super happy with it

Solid choice for a sliding mitt! My son plays comp baseball and this worked perfectly for him. It fit in his back pocket while batting and running and was easy to put on so he could slide into home base. I like that it protects his hand and the black is very forgiving of red dirt. I found it fairly easy to knock the worst of the dust off and wash in between games.

Purchased this for our “tweenage” grandson who has played on a traveling league team for three years and specifically requested a sliding mitt. So, after one “field test,” he claims this particular glove “has good padding to prevent injury” but it was very hard for him to get on his hand quickly enough, especially when he was told to steal a base. It’s an adult-size glove and he’s a tall 12-year-old, but not exceptionally big — 5’5” and about 120 pounds. Apparently the glove runs a bit small.

My son could be "left out" and had to have a sliding mitt. I was not going to pay a premium for the name brand ones. This one does the trick. The velcro is easy to work with and he can quickly put it on after being on base. As much as an 11u player "needs" a mitt this does the trick. I made him practice with it before whipping it out in a game.

Everyone on our son's 12U team started using sliding mitts so of course, we "had" to have one. Not much sliding going on but he looks good running those bases!
