About this item

  • An open-grown live oak is a massive, picturesque, wide-spreading tree with magnificent horizontal and arching branches that form a broad, rounded canopy. A squat, tapering trunk (larger in diameter than that of any other oak) supports the huge, irregular limbs which often rest their elbows on the ground.
  • Dark-green, waxy, unlobed leaves fall just as new leaves emerge in the spring, making the tree appear evergreen, though the coordinated leaf loss means its not actually a true evergreen.
  • The species tolerates more shade in summer than most oaks because the evergreen leaves can function through most of the winter. Fairly drought tolerant once established. It grows rapidly when young and may live to be centuries old. Adapts to almost any soil. Live Oaks can be used as street trees. Tolerant of salt spray.
  • The live oak provides one of the most indelible images of the Old South. The huge branches of a live oak festooned with Spanish moss and spreading horizontally over grassy lawns is iconic. The tree has long been a favorite not only for its beauty and shade but also for its strong and dense wood.
  • This is the familiar Spanish moss-covered oak of plantations in southeastern North America. Its massive limbs and persistent, glossy foliage have sustained its popularity as a residential shade tree to the present day. It is rarely found inland except in cultivation, where it becomes semi-deciduous and slower growing than those that receive the moisture-laden winds of the coast.

I received my three southern oak trees today. Calling them trees is being generous. They are about 3 1/2 inches tall not 12 inches as pictured. They did appear to be healthy and still moist and packaged well, but I am disappointed on the size of them.

I bought a box of these last year and a few survived the Texas summer but I needed some replacements. This year's shipment seemed a bit sparse on the leaves. For sure these are small tree saplings, which makes them easy to plant. However, I'm afraid the trees I received this year may have a very small percentage of survival.

I dont recommend this product, I expected 20 live and healthy seedlings instead I received two bunches of wilted, brittle and dry, not uniformed sizes, not what I expected at all.The pictures of the product are very misleading and far from what you really received, not even worth going thru the inconvenience of returning them.

I received these yesterday and have them transplanted into pots at the moment. Package was very well sealed, and the roots were nice and moist as they should be. Roots on them look good and the stems are very flexible and alive instead of stiff and dead. Great product and I look forward to their growth over the years.

Trees were in great shape and all transplanted without problems. Package was beat up really bad, but company packed so well trees were in great shape. Transport company should be embarrassed but tree supply company came the even with shipping company incompetence.
