Very expensive for what you get, but there are few alternatives for something this transportable.

This product looks very good for the price, but beware - it's not as useful as it appears. When I first decided to get a stand for my bassoon, I was very anxious to purchase one quickly and did not look much into other options, this stand being the first I saw in my search results (and highly rated). Now, I am very regretful about my decision due to all the problems I have with this product. Instead of being very manageable when placing your bassoon in it, I find it harder to place it securely into the stand on the first attempt than it should be. Yes, it does hold the instrument properly once you get it seated correctly, though it just bothers me sometimes that when I come back into the room, my bassoon will be on the floor; this hasn't happened yet, but if you just hastily set it down... well, don't do that. My biggest problem is the fact that it isn't completely compact. Sure, when you receive it, it's dismembered and everything, but you can only take it apart and put it back together entirely with a screw driver. It won't fold like I thought it would (mine also didn't come with a carry bag), and so it caused tons of stress at my all-state rehearsals having to lug it around back and forth from rehearsals on the bus, to the hotel, and then to the concert hall. Other bassoonists were surprised that this product didn't fold completely, and I happened to notice they were using the Hercules bassoon stand (with the yellow cup). I think I may just buy that now, though it's unfortunate I had to waste money to find out which was a better product. That's another reason why I'm making this review - so people realize what I did without spending their hard earned cash. I will keep the stand mostly for practicing at home, though DEFINITELY not for rehearsals... too much of a hassle.

This is a great stand that is very sturdy, balanced and safe, especially for its size/weight. The only thing is that it's a little too inconvenient to disassemble every time I leave a gig or my teaching studio so I end up carrying it assembled and it sticks out and jabs people in crowds.

Very sturdy and yet portable. The best feature is that it comes apart easily and fits nicely in the pocket of my case cover. I'm ordering a second one to keep at home!
