I didn’t even know what this item was called. I just submitted a photo of the broken item on the amazing Amazon app, and had a new one at my doorstep (and in my doorknob) the very next day!!!

Checked locksmiths in this town for years. Couldn't find anything even with the old "shaft" in hand. Looking for a split doorknob SHAFT online. Didn't know that it was actually a split SPINDLE! Looks like a shaft to me.

As you can see in the photo. The original part had seen better days. The new part was a little bit longer than the original but zero issues on install. A perfect solution to a potentially expensive issue.
