I’m not a police officer. I bought this for bike rides. I’ve been involved in various close calls and aggression while road cycling.I think this unit can serve my intended purpose, but with limitations.I tried carrying this attached to my backside to catch cars coming up on me. You can certainly see the cars, but you really can’t see the plate numbers, even though the car passes within a couple feet of me. I would have thought 2k resolution would be enough, but there are issues with lens quality and rolling shutter. These issues are independent of resolution and result in soft video quality. If there was an altercation head on, this would do an ok job of recording the incident. However, if you needed to identify nearby people, the image might be too soft to see them clearly. In the end, it could be better, but it isn’t bad.

I'm not in law enforcement. I'm just an average citizen that would prefer to have video coverage on my person when interacting with tenants and others in certain areas. I primarily use this as a dash cam with an available mount (see pic) and it works well in that capacity. Image quality is good both in good/normal lighting and at night; but it struggles in that mid-range....where it is too dark to get a clear image but not dark enough for IR to kick in. Also, while the images are clear for the most part, you would be hard-pressed to make out detail more than 20ft in front of you. Not so much a big deal for me now, but for those looking to perhaps capture license plates or details such as tattoos, jewelry, or body piercings, that may be a struggle, especially in low-light situations. There are a lot of menu options and features, and honestly I have not had the time or need to run through them all; but I do like the option of recording immediately at powerup, so I don't have to remember to do that second step. Sound quality is good (I think the internal mic quality might actually be better than the optics), so would have no concerns about picking up conversations. The battery life is good (for now), but time will tell if that continues to be the case. I did notice that after about 10 minutes of recording, the camera gets really warm. Not burning hot....but definitely hot enough to feel through clothing......like when using your cell while it's charging. So, don't know what the deal is there, but will have to keep an eye on that. In general, excessive heat build-up in electronics does not bode well. The micro SD card has ample space for any situation, and the included USB adapter/reader for viewing footage on computer is a plus....I happen to have several (because of other devices) but good of them to think about it. Overall, this is a solid bodycam packed with a lot of features, and reasonably priced for what you're getting.

An amazing small camcorder / security device - perfect for security situations but this is definitely not a stealth device nor a rugged go-pro substitute. If you are involved in security, or want to set up indoor motion-detecting recording, or maybe you’re looking to disconnect from always being online by leaving your smartphone behind and yet want to be able to record videos, this is the device for you.The model I received came pre-charged, allowing us to use it from the moment we got it. The instructions are clear and unlike some other instruction booklets that I’ve seen, it’s in large enough font that you can read it, though not large enough to let you read them without glasses (if you need them). The manual is a necessity. Due to the size of the device, a lot of functionality is built into the seven buttons, and using it isn’t very intuitive. Could you eventually figure out how to use this without the guide? Probably, but you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches by referring to the guide. Two plastic clips with metal mounting components are provided. The clips lock on tight to the camera and I doubt the camera will ever come off on it’s own, no matter what the situation, but the plastic components of the clips, though sturdy and not at all flimsy, may eventually break, so be careful with them as you clip them on and off. What’s great about the larger clip is that the angle of the mount is adjustable. This means that if you clip it on your belt, you can angle the camera upwards so that it records what’s in front of you rather than shooting your feet. And that’s a key thing with this or any similar device - you need to position it correctly otherwise you’ll wind up recording the floor or an off-angle.The smaller clip is toothed, guaranteeing it will stay in place.Because the camera locks onto the clips, you need to become familiar with the controls before you put it on, otherwise you’ll find yourself struggling to unclip it to change a setting. But once on, the recording start button is strategically placed as the right-top button, so you can quickly start and stop recording.Recording quality is fantastic - not HD, but honestly for the normal use-cases, you don’t need HD.If you decide to wear this on your belt, clip it onto a shoulder-strap, or hang it from a bag, everyone is going to know that you’re recording. Not so much an issue if you’re a tourist or you’re in a public setting. The motion detection isn't very sensitive. Placed on a tabletop, my dog came briefly into the picture and my dog didn’t trigger the motion detector. My spouse walked by and after a brief delay the camera turned on.Videos can be either a maximum of 5 continuous minutes, 10 minutes, 15, 20, or 30 minutes. After the time elapses, a new file will be created and the device will continue to record. If you have more than one of these devices, you can assign a “Device ID” to the recorded videos. You can also assign an “officer ID” so that you can tell who recorded what clip.Random Features:* Uses USB-C* You can password-protect the device to prevent someone from downloading the files.* By default, the camera beeps and makes sounds every time you use it, but there’s a setting in the menu to turn off sounds.* Motion detection* Night Vision works well* Speaker is clear and loud* Maximum video length is 30 minutes* 800-number customer supportI noticed that after a few minutes it runs hot - not burning - more like the heat you can get from overtaxing your cell phone. My verdict:For security officers and other security situations, this is a perfect device to have. If you’re an officer or a bouncer, or even a manager who deals with the public and wants to ensure your safety as well as the public’s by having everything documented, then get this.If you’re looking for a go-pro substitute, this might be for you, but it’s neither waterproof nor drop-proof.
