This HDMI capture device does what it says it does. Works in USB 3.0 with YUY2 encoding (uncompressed 4:2:2). It also supports MJPEG encoding like the cheaper encoders, but if you want higher quality out of the capture device, go with YUY2.Setup was simple: I plugged it into an open USB-C port, enabled it in OBS, and it just worked. It creates a sharp output from a 1080p source. I use it to livestream with a 1080p camcorder, and it works great for that. The box gets pleasantly warm but not hot after a couple hours of use. Latency seems well under control. Didn't notice very much lag at all beyond what the camera itself creates.Under the hood, this uses a Macrosilicon MS2131. This is a USB 3.0 one-chip HDMI in/out + capture + audio in/out chip. This is a cost-reduced / BOM-optimized version of some older capture devices, and I'm 100% here for it. Less to go wrong in a one-chip box.The YUY2 output is crisp, it doesn't seem like it will self-immolate, and it has a nice, robust case. I am happy with it. Video quality may not be quite as good as an Elgato, but for my modest purposes, this thing is awesome. Definitely a step up from those USB 2.0 capture devices.

The video quality is very grainy and full of MPEG artifacts. Bummer.

Alright, I’ve gone through more capture cards than I care to admit, and let’s just say—not all of them are great. Some have annoying lag, others come with driver nightmares, and a few simply don’t live up to their specs. But this XIIXMASK Video Capture Card? Actually delivers.Setting this up was shockingly easy—plug it in, tweak a few settings, and it’s ready to go. I didn’t have to wrestle with drivers or endless troubleshooting, which is rare for video capture devices. The USB 3.0 connection plays a huge role in that speed, letting me record without stuttering or annoying latency.I tested it with my PS5, camera, and PC, and it handled all three without any issues. Whether I was recording gameplay, live streaming, or capturing footage for editing, it was consistent across the board. The 4K HDMI loop-out. I was expecting some kind of delay between my gameplay and what was being recorded, but nope—smooth and lag-free. It’s perfect for streaming while gaming, because you don’t feel like you’re watching a slightly delayed version of your own screen. Also, the picture quality is better than I expected. While 2K capture maxes out at 30FPS, the 1080P 60FPS option looks crisp and plays smoothly. I tested it with fast-paced content—like action games and camera movement-heavy footage—and the motion felt natural, with no weird frame skipping.

I hooked this up to my M1 Mac Studio and it didn't need any drivers. It showed up as "USB 3 Video" in OBS and worked right away. I liked that this one came with a USB C cable with a built-in USB A adapter so it was ready to work regardless of which port was free. I like this design a lot better than the usb stick design because I've had those fail/glitch from too much plug fatigue, with this you can swap out either the USB or HDMI cables and they rest comfortably on the desk. The image quality was good, without any noticeable artifacts on the screen. It did seem to have a very slight lag, not enough to be noticeable in a broadcast or sound syncing, but it might be enough to cause an issue if you're playing a game which require precision while watching the captured video. Overall though it's a steal if you're just getting started or a limited budget for your project. It's under thirty dollars, includes all the cables, USB 3 4k video, video out and HDCP support.

So far I've only used this capture card for 2 uncommon use cases. Both were for youtube content. The first was installing proxmox on a home server and inital ideal setup of that server. The second was unlocking the bootloader of a phone and rooting it so I could make an instructional video and post it to well known developer website so other people would also be able to do the same. Both times times this capture card worked as expected. The video quality was very good and the file sizes were reasonable. I like how small the device is, it fits in my laptop slim case.

I mainly use this for capturing footage for my microscope. The quality is okay and gets the job done. As for games, it's alright, but I'd prefer my ELGATO. This is a great value for someone who's looking to get started, though with streaming their gaming footage. It's also quick to setup in OBS as ist basically plug and play.

I was using a usb key sized video converter to play Ps4 games on my imac via the OBS software. But one day the usb port on the back of my imac stopped working with the video converter. The port worked with my keyboard and mouse so maybe the converter did something. This 4k video converter is larger. Has a mic and earphone port. It also has an extra hdmi out port so you can add a separate tv or monitor display along with your laptop or desktop computer. It comes with a usb cable that also has a usb c adapter. It also came with an hdmi cable. There's 2 green lights that glow on either end to let you know it's working. The instructions are great. It acutally explains how to use the OSB streaming software. The only issue I had was that I had to select the USB 3 option in the video capture device setting. I also had to go into the settings tab and select the USB 3 audio as an option. My old settings just wouldn't work. I had to go over the instructions and found that it explained it all. My old converter was only for HD output. This 4k version is better and worth the extra cost. It's about doulbe the cost of the simple usb key verisons. This is a great product. Great value for the price listed.
