These pastry brushes aren’t impressive, but they can do the job. The handles are relatively light, and presumably cheap, plastic. The bristles are sometimes too long and occasionally crooked but there are plenty of them and they seem effective. As others have mentioned, I wouldn’t recommend getting these brushes close to heat sources, but outside of that they do the job well.Since it always bothers me to reuse a basting brush because they are difficult to clean and sanitize, I like to think of these as semi-disposable. That said, I have been surprised how easily they have been cleaned so far.Overall, I think they are a good low cost brush.

I really like this set of pastry brushes. First, let me start by saying, my boyfriend has been using a paintbrush to BBQ with for almost a year. He says it works the best. So I ordered this set of brushes to get rid of that paintbrush that is a nightmare to clean. These brushes are going to work really well for what we use them for. The bristles don't Fray and fall out. The set comes with five different brush sizes, which is great for different size items. And they're a good price for the set. I definitely recommend this set for anybody that uses brushes in their cooking.

I'm not going to bad-mouth these brushes because they are all plastic and synthetic. Let's face it, nylon bristles clean up a whole lot easier than natural hair fibers. If cavemen knew how to make plastics they probably would have never bothered with messing with hogs hair. These brushes are a very cost effective means of doing all your basting. I can remember to not leave the brush on the grill so the plastic handle doesn't melt. If the handle is too hot to hold, then obviously I'm doing something wrong. The bristles do hold a lot more solution than the silicon ones. I only count 20 "bristles" on our silicon job. They do a great job of spreading evenly, and due to the volume of liquid the brush holds, a brief lick of open flame will not damage the brush any more than natural hair.I did take some time to pull out a few loose bristles, all on the larger sizes. Once I was done I rinsed and tugged the "hairs" and found them to be quite secure in the unique means of binding. Even an expensive paint brush will have an occasional loose bristle. It just comes with the nature of the job and one has to be observant. With a set of 5 at a near Dollar Store cost each, I may find a painting job for one of these sometime. I'm pretty sure they would be up to the task.

There are several things to love about these brushes, actually. Because they are all synthetic (plastic handles and synthetic bristles), they should hold up in the top rack of the dishwasher. Even though the bristles are synthetic, they are feathered at the tips, so will definitely hold butter or oil well. Also, having the choice of different sizes is nice, as well as being able to have spares if others are in the dishwasher. My wife absolutely detests those silicone basting brushes, so she’s been using an inexpensive wooden paintbrush instead, which works well but is not easy to clean. She’s really happy with these and we would definitely recommend them, especially at such a reasonable price for the set (currently $6.99).

Nope. Not going to use these. They look like wood in the picture and they actually look quite nice in the advertisement. What I received is molded plastic that looks like wood. The metal looking band is actually plastic too.I opened the box and bristles fell out. I took the brushes out and some of them bristles are bent sideways. The edge of the brush is quite un-even on all of them and some bristles are longer/shorter than others. I can't take the chance of putting loose bristles into my food, and I don't feel like picking bristles out of my BBQ.I really wanted to like these. I just got done making 6 full racks of ribs and thought that it would be nice to have an extra set of basting brushes in different sizes so I could find what size would work best for my application. Nope. I'll keep looking.

Nothing is more simpler than just brushing on bbq sauces on meats or egg wash on pastries. You get 5 brushes so you can use it multiple times before running a dishwasher. Quality is fine, I am not painting happy clouds with these.

Bristles are low quality and loosely fitted to the handles
