Equisetum is a "living fossil", the only living genus of the entire subclass Equisetidae, which for over 100 million years was much more diverse and dominated the understorey of late Paleozoic forests.

Simply plant cuttings without roots and carelessly packaged. These cuttings still have no roots after several weeks. They look as if they're slowly rotting.

It requires a little work when you receive your cuttings, but they WILL grow! I recut them at a 45° angle, dipped them in rooting powder and gently put them down in pre-made holes in a good, wet potting mix, packing the soil around them. Then I tented both 6" pots with gallon zip lock bags and placed them by a window with bright light. When they had sprouts about 1/4" long, (3 weeks) I took the bags off and moved them outside where they get some filtered morning sun. The temperatures outside are warm and a bit humid, now. I've kept the soil moist, but not saturated. At 4 weeks, they're growing well!

I’m usually pretty good at propagating but there was nothing to propagate. Just sticks.

Like that they sent so quickly however the cutting didn’t have enough sprouts on them to be ready for shipment, now I have to hope and pray that they will take root. I watch them for seven days.

The Horsetail Plant Cuttings arrived looking like a bunch of green straws. No roots no nothing! I planted them (a lot more than 6!) in 3 different ways. I put some in good dirt about half way buried and watered them every day. Some more I simply stuck in a pot already in my pond which is under water, half of the cutting sticking out of the water. The last batch I stood upright in my waterfall. No dirt at all, simply propped up with water rushing by. every one of the cuttings are now growing. Some larger than others but ALL growing. Give them plenty of water and have patience! They are So worth it.

I bought these after researching good plants for my outdoor pond. They have struggled to grow and are slowly dying. I don't recommend these plants, they are just cuttings and require a lot of care at first to, just maybe, get them to grow some shoots.
