The manual is not for beginners. It is hard to understand. There is no CHIRP software available. The listing says to use Baufeng's software from their site, which I don't trust. One review claimed that the software download is infested with malware. Will not attempt. Don't want to destroy my PC or the radio. Baufeng jumped the gun on releasing this model. With no CHIRP available, there is no reliable way to program this radio. Debating on whether to keep these radios. Also read that this model does not produce 10 watts as stated in more than one review. This could possibly could be due to the antenna. The antennas that came with these devices appear to be about as cheap as they get. I will try a better antenna to see results. Will most likely return. Apparently no OEM extended life batteries. So this particular model appears to be somewhat worthless, also with advertised GPS but no apparent way to access this feature. Just looked at the manual which states in the specs 7 watts max. So either this is the wrong manual or Baufeng is lying about this supposed 10 watt radio. Updating my previous statement in this comment from most likely return to definitely will return. I expected a lot more from Baufeng. Very disappointed.

I live in Florida and this year we have seen a greater amount of rain. No serious hurricanes but stormy rains, having said that, worrying about my in-law who just became a widow I decided to buy these in an attempt to stay in contact in the event that all went down. These were rated to up to 5 miles. I figure I buy them since she lives 2 miles from me but with lots of vegetation (trees) and being that its a Baofeng it would work. But sadly it didn't.After I returned them, I looked up on more info on these. Found out that a repeater antenna can be added. Sadly when you know nothing about these and your only experience is at work where you just pick one from a table and clip it to your belt and keep walking, you stay ignorant. But like I said, I will probably buy again. It would be easier also if they were accurate with info, distance performance, etc. But I also know that things work differently depending on location.

This is great I live in the middle of the woods so if my kids take off on the atv I can get ahold of them up here are. Ell phones donโt always work so to use this is a game changer. Especially since there are 4 bears who like in my are. A plus. I still need to learn how to use it correctly but I got that covered.

Edited:I had written a very negative review about this radio, mainly because of a issue I had with antennas. It seems that it was a combination of labeling and my lack of digging deeply enough into the box. Originally, I thought I had not received the TD-177 (long whip antennas) with the radios, because I could not find them. So, since I had not received any help from the dealer, I was annoyed and intended to return the radios.I received an email from their support in China, telling to look UNDER the plastic tray in the individual radio boxes, because that is where they typically put the TD-771 antenna when they sell it along with the radio. So, I looked at the boxes, and there was no label or anything else that indicated the antennas were present. However, when I lifted out the plastic trays, there were the antennas, nestled quietly under everything.I since have tested the radios with the longer antennas, and they work nicely. I feel sort of stupid, but then, since there was nothing saying to look UNDER the packaging, I don't feel too bad.So... all in all, I am pretty pleased. I will say that, at 67 years old, reading the tiny print on the keys... the even TINIER print on the illustrations in the manuals... is a challenge. But that's why they make magnifying glasses (for the radio) and copy machines that enlarge print (for the manual). You can't beat the price and value of a bundle like this, and I'm glad I ordered them. We're going on a road trip in a few months, and I'm eager to try them out when we are travelling.

I haven't tried anything out yet until I take some instructional courses. I bought the set as a entry level means of learning the functionality and capabilities they have to offer. I gave a 5 star because everything was delivered as described. I will update if need be.

These little HTโs just plain work. I have no problem hitting repeaters up to ten miles away. If you are new to ham, I would suggest this kit as a good place to start. You canโt beat the price for the quality of the radio and all the accessories you get. I am very pleased with my purchase. I purchased these through Tidradio and I am looking forward to checking out their Tidradio TD-H8 radio as well.
