Radio is solid and very inexpensive. Battery seems to be good quality & high capacity. Unfortunately the lack of a USB-C charging port which has become a standard feature nowadays makes this only good as a starter (or disposable) HT.

Este radio de la marca baofeng es bueno y cumple con todo. Lo único es que viene exclusivamente para trasmitir en las porciones de Radioaficionado.

The most affordable and popular mobile HAM radio in the world. It requires a license to transmit but you can listen without going to jail. The license is a an education. The radio can connect to a repeater and talk all over the world, or to the international Space Station. Very good quality. The longer the antenna the longer the range. It has thousands of frequencies including all 88 Marine channels. It's programable for you local area. This is a duel channel analog radio.

I like the fact that the buttons are larger than the buttons on the uv-* baofengs. dull lcd display is mediocre, but acceptable.

The BAOFENG UV-17R is a good starter radio for entry level use (and a general good low-cost radio). I won’t even pretend it’s perfect, but it is “good enough” for many use cases. The large button size and the UI for day to day operations is good. I feel the menu system is better than the venerable UV-5R, but it could use some improvement still. Audio quality is okay, not anywhere near as good as my Kenwood or Yaesu radios – but what do you expect at this price point? The radio transmits just fine on the 2m and 70cm ham bands but is NOT factory unlocked for other services such as GMRS. It has WX receive built-in (press and hold the 0 button).$23 gets you an awful lot – and if you feel the need to upgrade to get a specific feature, you’re really not out that much money and can keep this radio as a backup.
