By the title, I mean that it's not the easiest thing to adjust, so once you go to the trouble, you're not going to want to go from, say, reading a paperback novel to, for example, a hardcover cookbook.That said, once you've used the two included tools to adjust the torque on either two of, or all four of, the bolts that hold it in position, it works fine. They have a handy photo of a hand adjusting it in the ad, so use that for a picture of the process.Here's how the two tools work:1. Place the small tool into the recess on the INSIDE of each bolt to be adjusted, and hold it steady / do not turn it.2. Place the bigger tool on the OUTSIDE of the bolt to turn, then turn it.3. The small tool holds the opposite end of the bolt in place while you adjust the torque of the outside end.It seems well-made enough, doesn't have a cheap weight or feeling, the edges are smooth and the metal neatly painted.Although this isn't the easiest book stand I have at present, it's decent. Think of this one as just another way of helping you read without any real stress, once you make the initial adjustments for the particular book size and angle.

I am giving this a 4 for two reasons. First, I thought it would fit WELL on my bookshelf when folded up and it doesn't not really. Folded up it still sticks out quite a bit. Second, there must be a sweet spot for folding and unfolding but I haven't found it yet - more on that later.It is incredibly sturdy. I own some heavy books and this can hold them with no problem. The page clips at first wouldn't allow for anything more than a magazine but they quickly ease up and bend a bit. They still do not go far enough on the thick books I own but for all but one, they work. They can also be moved to the side so use a book clip instead to keep the book open and I'm happy. Also, for bigger books, it has sliding tabs on each side but I haven't found those to be necessary since it is so sturdy.It comes with all the tools you need. It is fully adjustable. I wanted this most of all for cookbooks. It saves a lot of space on my countertop. But I can see using it on my desk and for my tablet all around the house.Back to the sweet spot I haven't found yet - apparently other people have found it. According to the directions and other reviewers, the screws that hold the stand in the position you want can be tightened so it stays that way but can also be folded to store. I can tighten the screws to hold the stand in position but then I have to loosen them to fold it. It is quite large so I couldn't possibly leave it standing if I wasn't using it. I am assuming with more practice, I will find that sweet spot.

Before my review, I wish to state I received this item though Amazon Vine. However, I pride myself in my honest, unbiased, and detailed reviews.This was WAY stronger and more durable than I expected! I expect a lightweight, light duty stand like a music stand or one of the thousands of laptop stands that I have run across. Instead, this is a surprisingly durable, hefty piece of office supply. Materially, it is made of metal that feels about the same office shelving, it's base looks visually a bit small, but it has enough weigh and good rubberized feel that I grips even slightly slippery surfaces pretty well. I feel like this was built for serious users with a long use -live in mind. The prongs are stiff and grip well, but I have not noticed any streaks or marks from their rubber tips on any surface they are holding. I like that it comes with some tools for adjustment. I also feel like it was designed to be set up and left in one position and place for long duration. It's a little bulk folded up and I think it was intended to be set up and left for awhile rather than folded and moved frequently. However, with the included tools, it is certainly durable enough to be adaptable. I tested it with a 13 inch laptop and a 400 page, soft cover, full-sized textbook. It held both with no issue and I feel like it could withstand 20-30% more weight without too much issue. Overall, it is a tank and I would absolutely recommend it to teachers or musicians or anyone needing a semi-permanent stand that won't let them down.
