I bought this because its plastic. Plastic is both its greatest feature (for me) and its greatest limitation. Care must be taken because of slight flexibility and softness that plastic has, but at the same time the plastic is softer than metal and won't scratch what is measured. If you are measuring antiques, jewelry, painted items, or anything you don't want scratched, then plastic is safer. This has the added convenience of having a dial measured in both 1/64ths and 1/100. If you are measuring something manufactured to fractional inches, this saves time and possibly math.

The roller dial to move the measure had miss formed teeth. It would not move the measure smoothly. The caliper itself does not open or close smoothly.If I push the caliper closed it skips teeth and the dial does not zero. At from then on, it's not possible to use the dial for measurements. The only way to reset is to pry it apart and twist the gears internally. Not worth the money. This one is going to the trash as I'd never let anyone even have it.I have a better plastic caliper, but seem to have misplaced it. Hopefully it surfaces soon.

The tool didnt work.Every time i would slide it it made a grinding noise and the dial would park in a diferant spot. Would not return to zero. Don't purchase a waist of money. There are other ones that look the same Name brand .Purchase the name brand. I purchased both the cheap piece of junk and the name brand, a little more expensive. the name brand looks the same ,but works FINE. I threw away the cheap piece of junk into the garbage. You get what You Pay For . Bottom Line.

With a description that references mm twice and never mentions inches you would think the dial scale is in millimeters, is is not. It is in inches. While the gross scale identifies both mm and inches the dial scale, where the real accuracy is identified only displays sub-inch graduations. You must get out your calculator to really measure in metric values. Frustrating piece of junk.

Good for lite garage work. Would have given 5 stars if the dial were adjustable to zero, but as-is it meets my needs. I have proper calipers but don't always want to retrieve them or have them laying about, while these inexpensive plastic ones are perfect to have laying around in their case, which is solid and transparent so easy to locate.
