Lets me control my computer in the office with ease. Much better and faster than the remote software I was using. Connections are rock solid and I am able to transfer files between my systems easily and much faster than a software based iKVM.

I recently tried out, and it’s been a game-changer for managing my IT tasks. Setting it up was a breeze with its one-click app connection and Tailscale integration—no software needed on the controlled device. I was impressed by the 4K resolution support at 30Hz with under 60ms latency, which made remote work feel almost like being on-site. The audio quality added to that local experience, and the ability to access BIOS remotely saved me from multiple in-person trips to fix systems. The device’s compatibility with laptops, servers, and even streaming devices is a huge plus. File transfers were seamless, solving sync issues I’ve struggled with before. Its compact design and included cables (HDMI, USB-C, Ethernet) made it easy to use anywhere. While it could use a few more features, the standalone functionality and deep access for technical users more than make up for it. For IT pros or anyone needing reliable remote control, I’d highly recommend this device.

This is the ipKVM that many have been waiting for - a truly affordable ipKVM. I never understood the hype with PiKVM, saying its price point made it easily accessible, it felt too expensive to me. Compare it to the GL.inet Comet and its base hardware package is more expensive than the Comet, *and* needs a raspberry pi, also more expensive than the Comet ... or you can get one with everything fully put together for 3x the price of the CometSetup of the device was super easy -- first thing you'll want to do especially with this being such a new product is to update the firmware. This can be done online with a few clicks and completed rather quickly. I setup to make a remote connection through my own domain name into my network rather than use the GLKVM app and so I can report that the Comet works behind NGINX reverse proxy (w/ LetsEncrypt SSL) with no special configurations necessary, I'm using the same settings I use for other hosts.Performance was acceptable - I have a full gig up and down speed and using the medium quality option at the default "monitor setting" (EDID) the display renders quickly. There is of course some lag to your actions but I found it to not be any worse than any of the Enterprise systems that I've used. The one thing you can not currently do is a remote power up of an offline device except for a Wake On Lan packet. The coming ATX board once released will act as a virtual version of the server's physical power/reset button.I'm very pleased with this little device. There is not really much product selection below an enterprise system for SMB or prosumers, and the Comet nicely helps to fill that void -- its closest competitor is not far out of Kickstarter and nto even taking any orders at this point but the Comet is available now and with fast Amazon shipping. If Gl-iNet can spread the word about this device adequately, it's a no-brainer at this point.

If all you want this switch for is basic desktop work and/or IT management, it gets the job done and I think you'll probably be fairly happy with it. Mouse latency was pretty low while using it over my local network via the web interface - so low that you could probably get some singleplayer gaming done pretty comfortably. That is, you could if the codec weren't so slow to update when drastic onscreen changes occur. I also noticed some frame drops. It's not so drastic that it would meaningfully impede most work, but it's there and it can be annoying.Having said that, the web interface is extremely intuitive and feature packed while remaining comfortably minimal in presentation. There's also a feature for sharing and storing files between host and client using the 5+ gbs of onboard storage.Tailscale integration is also present if your organization happens to use it or if you're just a home user looking to keep things as secure as possible.Overall, you're getting a pretty decent feature set and pleasantly low latency, but the video quality degrades quickly if you try to do anything more complicated than basic office work. If that's all you need this for, it'll do.

I recently tried a router from GL.iNet and I was impressed by the fact that it runs OpenWRT.Upon opening the box of this KVM the quick start guide informs us that it simply requires wiring up and then connecting to with an app via their cloud service, this did not fill me with confidence.I connected the device to a network which offers it an IP but no internet access, a quick Nmap shows that GL.iNet has done it again. Although they offer the cloud service, I am not forced to use it with the device offering up a local web server and SSH access. On my first visit to the web interface I was asked to set an admin password which then also becomes the the root password for SSHing into the device.I'm loving this about the GL.iNet products I have tried so far, although they offer the layer of convenience of their own interface/cloud server/app making it a smooth and easy experience for the less technical user, they do not force it down your throat in a "Our way or the highway" fashion as seen in some other devices (see cloud based cameras).Once logged in, it just starts working. A video feed is presented from the attached HDMI with keyboard and mouse inputs being forwarded back to the device as USB devices. There are other handy features, such as a built in WoL sender for waking up powered down devices and the ability to act as a USB storage device for transferring files in and out.In short it "just works" even without the cloud service or app which is exactly what I want from such a device. The only reason I've knocked of a star is the lag, by default it shows up as a 2560x1440 monitor to the attached device and it appears to try and stream the image back to my browser as H.265. This was EXTREMELY laggy, I knocked this down to 1080, dropped the quality to low and turned of the background image on the device yet still the lag between mouse inputs and a response was nearly unusable. This may just be the fact that I'm trying to view it in the browser, if the device is to offer the display as a video stream, the ability to access this stream via something like RTSP would be a useful addition. VNC would be even nicer! That said, the fact that it lacks some features is still made up for by the fact that it works standalone and allows the more technical user deeper access at all.

I selected this in order to control a mac mini in my network cabinet which serves as a media server, but I also done some other testing as well prior to putting it fully in place. On a windows machine it worked perfectly for controlling of a PC, with very little input lag. I did try my luck with a game, and while it did control without issue, the stream quality of the video was not very good. This is defiantly more suited for remote productivity, which it does excellently. It worked perfectly on my mac mini; this is going to save endless of cable trailing when I need to adjust the settings. The app is not needed, and you do not need to sign up for an account. You can just use a web browser to go straight in; it did require an update on first use.Overall, very happy with it, it will do its job on the occasions when needed.
