SIMPLE OPERATION
- Install the ball brackets to the hood mounts, make sure to position with the ball oriented toward the end of the hood, not toward the windshield, and facing in. (To keep the brackets centered, wedged the end of a wrench between them while tightening.)
- Install the chrome ball bolts to the holes in the engine compartment. The kit provides a long metal strip wrapped in electrical tape on both ends, with a forked nut attached to each end. Bending the strip if necessary, insert one end into the larger hole until you can thread the ball bolt in from above, then tighten with the 12 mm. When done, simply pull on the metal strip until the electrical tape releases.

Takes a little patience at first but once you get the hang of it works like a charm. No more putting up a hot stick after a long drive if you need to open the hood. I can’t speak on all cars and whether it will work well but for my 21 rav4 le, works well.

The hood struts work. However they bring the hood up a llittle bit too fast, maybe they will slow down after being used for a while. The installation took a little more time than expected because the top ball joint for the left side has the holes for the wire clip on the inside. I improvised by removng the pin, temporarily installing and adjusting the length of the strut to the exact length needed. I then removed the plate and strut and install the pin. Next I bolted the plate back in place to complete the installation. I hope this explanation helps some one who may be having the same problem.

These hood struts are great. They make things look cleaner, more refined and make it easier to do work in the engine bay. Unfortunately the first set I bought stopped holding the hood open just two months in. The fluid in the piston must have leaked out. I reached out to High Flying and they sent me a replacement set no questions asked. The second set has lasted over a year now with no issue. I’m very happy with the product and the great customer service.

First of all, the quality of the product is not good at all. Secondly, if you come to the point, the part where it screws is full of mold since it was new, therefore it is not good at all, thirdly, the bases they use are made of a very weak metal, in addition, the holes are very large when you place them with the original screw, they have many sets, four have some pins that you have to remove to be able to place it on the bases, otherwise you will never be able to place it on the base, fifth and last when you try to close the bonnet it becomes very hard so you have to push the bonnet with hands to close it.

I installed these myself in less than an hour. No drilling, they use stock bolts. I don't like the way the brackets turn because they are only held in by 1 bolt, but they seem to work fine.

So I have bought this product a week or two ago and when I try to install it, one of the ball joint for the hydraulic arm was too big, so the arm won't stay in the joint. (the other side works)So I just start the refund process, and within a week, I got one eamil tell me they know what is wrong, ask my car model, and ask me to take pictures to proof I did everything correct.I didn't reply because I am busy, and within 24 hours I got 2 additional e mail asking me to provide proof that is not me installing the product incorretly. I found it extremely unpleasant to have to be push for anwer where it was a QC issue not installation issue.

These struts look and work great on my 2022 RAV4 XSE Hybrid. After reading the reviews, I was concerned about issues with the installation so I took it slowly and triple checked the fit of everything. There are no instructions with the product. If you are in doubt about installing, I recommend having the struts installed by someone who is mechanically inclined since it is possible to misalign the hood if these struts are installed wrong. Take your time and check/re-check for restrictions while closing the hood slowly. I put multipurpose synthetic grease in the ball joints of the struts to reduce metal wear and squeaks. Tip: install the struts in the correct direction; that is, look at the seller's pictures showing the fat part of strut on top. Be careful not to drop the clip springs while working over the engine. I put the strut assemblies together away from the engine compartment before installing them using the bolts. I used a 12mm socket with 8" flexible extension and ratchet, and an 12mm open end wrench. Good luck.
