About this item

  • Maximum performance upgrade with up to 40% more damping performance than standard shock absorbers
  • Perfect solution when you need to upgrade suspension performance on your Dodge truck
  • Truck monotube design outperforms all other standard shock absorbers
  • Zinc-coated, stainless steel piston ring provides a positive seal in the most extreme conditions
  • Rubber boot to protect the shaft and keep dirt and debris away from the seals

Tough conditions demand tough truck shocks. The large bore KYB MonoMax provides the additional stability that heavier, more powerful or high center of gravity vehicles demand. The KYB MonoMax is a heavy duty monotube shock absorber that provides the most handling, control and durability of any KYB shock; and it’s just for trucks. The MonoMax’s tough design automatically adjusts to driving conditions with fade-free performance. The KYB MonoMax has an outstanding reputation for vehicles that do real work, go off-road, tow a trailer or haul heavy loads. It uses a work-ready, zinc-coated steel piston ring and includes an off-road dust boot.

Replaced all four shocks on a 2001 Durango. The old shocks were very weak, and the car wallowed a lot while driving. I've used KYBs before and have been very happy with the ride quality, however I've never used the MonoMax shocks before. I was concerned that they might be too stiff for daily driving in LA. But after driving it for a couple days, I am happy with the ride. It's definitely stiffer than stock, but not jarringly so. More like the vehicle just feels more planted and controlled. Large bumps and dips are compliant and the vehicle doesn't 'crash' over them. I always felt the factory Durango shocks were too soft, and that's why I chose the MonoMax over the regular KYB Gas-a-just (which I have on another vehicle). The regular KYB Gas-a-just ride just a hair firmer than stock, so if you're looking for a factory original ride, choose those. But for me, these firmed up the ride of my Durango just enough and it's more of a pleasure to drive. I use the vehicle for daily commuting and weekend camping trips.

I have always been a fan KYB suspension products. I recently installed a set of shocks on a '99 Dodge Dakota and was amazed at the transformation in both handling and control. This just reaffirmed why I continue to choose KYB for both price and quality. In both everyday and performance applications, they can not be beat. The performance for the price is well worth the investment.

I just installed these in my 00 Dakota 4x4 and it feels like a totally different truck. Mind you the factory shocks were definitely worn out, but these feel much better than stock. Cornerning and braking has improved drastically, as well as stiffening up the rear end with a full bed. I recommend spending the extra $ and getting these monomax's!UPDATE: January 14th, 2016I'm updating this review since I pulled my big enclosed trailer for the first time with these new shocks installed. There was a HUGE difference in handling and the way the truck sat with the trailer attached. With my old shocks installed, the rear end of the truck would sag quite a bit with a large load in the bed, or with a trailer attached. These MonoMax's took care of that issue. When you're pulling a trailer you really get to see just how good your shocks are, and my truck no longer sways or bounces like crazy. These are well worth the money!

My Dakota rides a lot smoother now with these shocks. I am not afraid to hit a bump now. Much more stable driving.

These cshocks were replacement for my factory Dodge dakota ones. I had a little over 130,000 miles on my old shocks and needless to say, they were completly shot! the change in; handeling, ride quality, and balance was night and day! I have taken the truck for a little off-roading/ mudding and the shocks perform better then expected! Altohuhg not lifted, these shocks will raise your truck about .5" or so, but mount up easily in all the factory locations.Vehicle: 2001 Dodge Dakota SLT 4X4

If you want a Cadillac ride these are not for you, but they are also better than the tooth jarring ride of ProComps monotube. I replaced worn Monroe Reflex shocks up from and Edlebrock in the rear of a Dakota, and I love that the ride is now balanced. The Edlebrocks were fine but not a good match to the worn out Reflex. My truck sits flat cornering and ride great at highway speed. At slow speeds the shock can be a little stiff on a cement road with busted seams, but they take speed bumps and dips with ease. Braking and cornering in my quad cab Dakota is so much better. These gave it it's confidence back.

What a difference in ride quality, 50K miles on the OEM shocks and the ride was a little bouncy, bolt in these babys and it is like a totally different truck, rides smooth but tightens up offroad and much more controllable, keep your Monroe's or Gabriel's KYB is the way to go. Well worth the investment
