About this item

  • Adds up to 25% more damping performance over original equipment shocks
  • Components and valving designed specifically for the Pathfinder and QX4
  • High gas pressure design provides instant, extra control
  • monotube design outperforms all other standard shock absorbers
  • Unique, air-free, hydraulic unit eliminates performance fade

The KYB Gas-a-Just monotube shock absorber has additional performance advantages over the traditional twin-tube design: It can instantly, automatically adjust to your performance needs and never experiences fade due to aeration. The Gas-a-Just is available as an OE monotube replacement and as an OE twin-tube performance upgrade. The KYB Gas-a-Just has two separate working chambers: An air-free hydraulic piston and valve area for responsiveness & control, and a second high-pressure nitrogen gas area with a floating piston that provides a comfortable ride during normal driving and adds instant performance on demand.

After installing KYB shocks on my Nissan Pathfinder a few months ago, I wanted to share my thoughts for anyone considering these as a more budget-friendly option compared to premium brands like Bilstein.Installation & Initial Impressions:The KYB shocks were quite affordable and straightforward to install. The brand’s reputation for reliability was a key factor in my decision, given the price point. KYB has a solid track record, so I felt confident moving forward with these.Ride Quality:One of the first things I noticed after installation was a significant stiffening of the ride. While this could be seen as a positive change for improved handling, it might be a bit harsh if you’re used to a more cushioned ride. For a heavy SUV or truck, this added firmness is great, but for lighter vehicles or for a more factory ride experience I would recommend the step down, Excel G Shock.Performance Over Time:After several months of use, the shocks have maintained their performance without any immediate issues. However, if you’re looking for a premium feel and high-end performance, the KYBs may fall short compared to Bilsteins. The difference in bushing material and overall construction quality is noticeable; the KYBs don't quite match the durability and refinement that Bilstein shocks offer.Durability:In terms of durability, the KYBs have held up well so far, but the lower cost is reflected in the build quality. The bushing material and overall construction might not be as robust or refined as Bilstein’s, which could impact long-term performance and comfort. If you’re planning on doing a lot of off-roading or heavy-duty driving, investing in Bilsteins might be worthwhile for their superior durability and ride quality.Recommendation:If you’re on a budget and need a functional shock absorber that provides a stiffer ride, the KYBs are a good option. They offer decent performance for the price, but if you can afford it and are seeking the best possible ride quality and durability, I would recommend waiting to invest in Bilstein or another higher quality manufacturer of shocks. The difference in comfort and build quality could be worth the extra cost in the long run.

I ordered these in May of 2021, my left shock actually snapped in half and the right one was completely shot by Feb 2022... not even a year later. GARBAGE. Do not purchase these shocks!

Installed on the rear of my 1999 Nissan Pathfinder. These are gas shocks so if you push it down will go back up. Much needed for a better ride.

CHECK YOUR MANUFACTURING DATE!!!!! Did not fit a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder. Vehicle design changed in late 1998. Your vehicle manufacturing date MUST be before 11/98. Vendor should make the print larger stating this fact.

These are decent shocks, nothing fancy but at probably least as good as the ones that came on your vehicle when it was new. The price would be hard to beat.If you have a decent floor jack, a pair of jack stands, a compressor, a 1/2" drive impact wrench, and a set of metric air sockets for it, taking out your old worn out shocks and installing these is a very easy job that you should be able to do in under 30 minutes. While you're at it, take a few extra minutes and rotate your tires if they need it!

when i these shocks arrived at my door, i was soo excited, but that excitement QUICKLY went down when i saw the quality of these shocks. KYB's are supposed to be made in japan, this one is made in malaysia, and it SHOWS! The welding between the eyelet and the shock body was crap, like seriously, it was such a careless weld. The paint job was horrible, they went to the extent to paint the black rubber bushings but not the area between the eyelet and the shock end. I am surely returning these because i am concerned about the strength of the welds.update---a couple hours later. still oct 12, 2010after i calmed down, i thought rationally and realized that okay, they might be a bit subpar, but this is kyb, using kyb manufactering, the performance is probably the same as the ones built in japan. i checked my oem shocks and their welds werent as bad as these, but they werent perfect either. so if you are planning to buy this shock, and need a pretty good performance (this is a monotube shock) yeilding shock that will probably last you a while, get it.
