This backlight is the same as two other listed backlight testers. It's ok and does the job. It's listed as a 15/30ma 12W tester, but in my use, I've found it to behave as a constant current 30ma driver 100% of the time. Thus, it's spitting out the voltage required to push 30ma. Also a reminder that this does not have a polarity switcher, so while it may work on non-polar LEDs, you will have to get the positive and negative correct on polar LEDs.The major complaint is the somewhat poor construction. The female banana plug outlets are not properly secured. The large banana plugs on the test leads sometimes push the female barrel connector further inside. This happened on the red outlet, and we had to use a paper clip to pull it back higher to make contact.

Useful for testing LED strings, as most bench supplies can't go to 300V. Very useful for testing strings to find bad ones, comparing voltages of each to find any that are significantly different or to be sure your replacement string has similar characteristics to the original ones, and estimating how many LEDs are in a string. I tested on an LED light bulb and it correctly displayed voltage for string, and lower voltage for smaller sections of string. Not great construction quality.Seems to basically be a current-limited supply that increases voltage until current is 30mA, and displays that voltage. Handled shorting leads fine. Switch on side is just power switch; there is nothing else switchable.Unit itself is dinky. Probes are decent, with some kind of plated ends, though they could have used some protective shrouds so only the ends were exposed. Red plug was hard to put in and take out. Best to leave probes plugged in.
