They are easy to install. The original ones on my Chevy Tahoe quit, and after having been hit by the door multiple times on my head I finally got smarter. As said, they are easy to install, just follow the manual. A word of caution: they are very powerful and open the hatch door wider than before, so I always "guide" them by hand. They come at a great price, and since you can install them yourselves in minutes, you can save a bundle on installation.

One caution: they are powerful and will open th hatch forcefully and completely. I actually hope they loose some of their power with time.

I originally found this gas strut at an auto zone years ago but the plastic end caps cracked with no way to keep using them. The strut had a 4557 on the side as a part number so I searched using only these four numbers and gas strut name. As it turns out this strut was designed for autos, but I use it for holding up the engine cowling on my boat. The cowling is a large 5 foot molded fiberglass unit that folds into the body of the stern section. This strut in pairs, forms a super strong lift that should last a long time.
