Most bit sets only go up to 1/2". That covers the majority of applications, but there are those times.... This is a great deal, considering you'd pay this price for just one of these bits in a retail store. They are sharp and seem like good quality.

It's not often that I need to drill a 1 inch hole, but this kit will allow me to do that with my 1/2 inch drill. These appear to be high quality steel, well finished. I drilled several holes in various thicknesses of wood, with excellent results. No tearing or excessive splintering as I took my time and did not force the bit. I don't have a drill press, but slow progress is good enough for me with my standard Makita drill.Very nice case for storage is a definite plus. Excellent value.Recommended.

I don’t like giving low star ratings but in this case it can’t be helped. These drill bits are large and if you need ones this size these will likely work for you, as long as you don’t need a super clean or accurate hole. The grinds on these are super rough and jagged in places. The size labels and really hard to read and vary in quality from bit to bit. The finish is spotty and doesn’t inspire confidence. They are relatively inexpensive and the case they come in is decent. And as I said, they will drill, just not cleanly.

I rarely need to drill deep holes greater than 1/2 inch wide. That is typically the largest drill bit in most common drill bit sets; or at least it is in the three sets I have. For the most part, if I have needed to cut a larger hole than 1/2 inch, it is usually not through a thick piece of lumber but something like the back of a cabinet (for power or lighting lines). And I either use a spade bit or a hole saw bit for those jobs. But sometimes attaching hardware to a wooden frame or structure calls for a large bit that can cut a deep hole (like 2-3 inches or more) through wood. That’s where these larger bits can come in handy. The smallest bit is 9/16 “ and the largest is 1”. There are eight bits in all spread across that size range.I have a heavy duty hammer drill that can handle these bits, but I chose to use them in my drill press for this test. I used the largest (1”) , one from the mid-range (13/16”) and the smallest of the set (9/16”). You can check out the pics to see the outcome. The tri-flatted shanks on the bits seated well in the drill press (trust me, some do not), and readily cut through a piece of 2x4. They left a smooth bore hole with no notable tear. There was no drag or heat (I set the drill for 750 rpm) and the final cuts looked good on both sides. Again, check out the pics. These bits are made from HSS, an alloy that is typically resistant to heat and harder than carbon steel (it can cut faster than carbon steel without excessive heat, thus High Speed Steel). It also has coatings that at least claim to keep heat in check and hold onto lubrication longer (when drilling metal, there is often an oil used to cool the materials and improve the cutting speed). Yes, these bits are rated to drill some types of metals, it’s just not something within my usual perview. The bits are well made and certainly heavy duty, dense steel. I think they will last me a very long time. Of course, with heavier use over time it remains to be seen how long they will do the job. They certainly do what I would use them for, to make longer, larger holes through wood. And the price seems like a good one from where I sit.I recommend them!Remember eye protection when you drill. Shards can fly off of a piece being drilled that are razor sharp and sometimes red hot!

This is a nice set of drill bits ranging from 9/16 inch up to 1 inch in 1/16 inch increments. Got to admit that I've never actually seen a 1 in twist bit before - it really is big! All of the bits have 1/2 in shanks which fit nicely into my vintage Craftsman drill press as well as into my Rockwell (now Worx) 1/2 drill. These bits use the 'split point' 135 degree design which helps the bit stay centered when starting to drill. I'm definitely going to use 'cutting oil' when using these bits in harder materials such as steel. I drilled a clean hole in a 2x4 - it went very easily. Sorry that I don't have any steel sheet around to test them in metal - but they claim that these are made with M2 cobalt steel - so they should be durable if treated well (use cutting oil!). These are a nice addition to my tool set and will definitely come in handy when my (currently largest) 1/2 inch bit is a "bit" too small!

This is a set of eight drill bits that comes in a handy aluminum storage case. The drill range in size from 9/16" up to 1", all with a reduced size shank to fit most drill collets. Each bit has a two flute design with 135 degrees split point. The bits are black and gold finish and are made from high quality high speed steel. These bits are great for boring in metals. I plan to use my set in my basement shop for my next metal working project.Would recommend these to anyone.

Big Drill bits with cut down reduced shanks let me drill bigger holes than my standard drill will normally allow. Flat spots on the shank allow the jaws of my drill to clamp down tight so they dont twist and spin - a great feature that not all bits have. Nice tools!

I just needed some bits for a handful of holes in wood that would fit in my drill as I didn't want to buy something with a larger chuck. These did the job, but they don't make the cleanest of holes and if you plan on using them frequently you might want to pick up a higher quality set with sharper edges, but if you just need the occasional hole that is larger than your 1/2" drill chuck but smaller than most hole bits, then this will do the job. I'm happy with them for my uses, but hesitant to recommend them for someone who uses them more frequently than I do.
