I ordered this engineEAR at the same time I ordered the chassisear system. As with the chassisears, I was shocked at how poor the quality was when I opened the box. I would compare the quality of this enginear unit to the quality of a disposable dollar store gimmick camera from the early 2000's. The battery cover is so flimsy I doubt it will last more than a couple battery changes before the tabs break off. The unit is not sealed in any way. The plastic of the housing is so thin you can squeeze it with 2 fingers and completely deform it. The headphones are "Those free disposable headphones from economy class on the airplane" quality. Tiny wires, no strain relief, just all around this unit is the opposite of "automotive grade tool". Sending this back along with the chassisears. I can make a better system with an amazon set of headphones, microphone amplifier and cheapo microphone. Pathetic.Oh! And just an update as I am playing with this thing right out of the box as I write the review. The headphones included with my unit don't work. There is no signal coming out of the unit. It appears to use a "dollar store chinese thumbwheel volume control", that is probably shorted from the factory or some such nonsense. Absolute trash product and based on the chassisears I would say that this entire brand should be avoided.

Comes in a nice case, with noise canceling headphones. My son in law will love this.

This microphone just makes everything easy. The old screw driver truck works fine but it’s a lot better when you can isolate noises with the earphones.

Had an A/C leak at the compressor and was about to order a new compressor. Then, I bought this and found it was leaking from a high pressure bleed off valve on the hose at the back. This located it exactly, using it without the metal rod, just the rubber opening. You can isolate air leaks! You could probably find the leak in a tire if the leak was big enough to make any sound at all. You do need a quite few minutes because it picks up any sound in the air without the metal rod inserted.

Not impressed with the headphone amplifier. They used an LM386 after a transistor preamp. What they should have done is use a low noise NE5532 with a push-pull transistor follower. That would an awesome design and pleasing to the ear. I'm going to redesign it but keep everything except the circuit board. If you are needing this to work in a quiet environment move along. I realize it's not meant for quiet places but it still didn't need to be so noisy.

So first impressios, it came nicely packaged but when opening and inspecting the device i found that it was already a little damaged. The dial cover fell off. After gluing it back on i tested the operation. It operates very well and immediately helped me with a diagnosis that we had beem having trouble finding (a noise in the engine bay). All in all i would buy it again and recommend it for professional technicians.
