The absolute solution if you are transferring analog media to Hi res digital! The specs alone should be enough, but convenience of use is an added feature!Go right from your stereo system or phono preamp or other RCA line level device without needing additional transformers to convert from unbalanced (Hi-Z RCA connections) to balanced line (Lo-Z XLR connections) as the unbalanced I/O is on the back! And you still have balanced line inputs option on the front panel and outputs on the rear!I have the previous version (US1X2) and it worked well until the most recent Windows updates. Also, it maxxed out at 96 kHz 24 bit. This unit is capable of 192 kHz 24 bit, which is ideal for any restoration projects from period recordings.I am running Windows 10 and had n issue loading the drivers and directing my various DAW software to it as the source. With an S/N of -100db, you would be hard pressed to have any audible .I am archiving my own library to Hi Res digital, and as a retired mastering engineer and musician, I can tell you, look no further for an affordable solution!I do the occasional multitracking of myself too, so the balanced ports on the front panel (and switchable instrument input) are a godsend as well! Both inputs can also be used as unbalanced line in, allowing a mixer to be used.TASCAM's reputation precedes it, so buy with confidence! It is drop dead quiet and adds no coloring or artifacts.

I primarily edit with a pair of desktop speakers but I also keep headphones plugged into this interface so I can switch to those when I need better sound isolation. It's nice to be able to just turn the speaker volume knob down and headphone volume up without needing to plug / unplug anything or switch any settings on my computer. The front XLR input has come in handy when I needed to do a quick voice over or other recording and I sometimes will use it along with a condenser mic for video chats, which often results in being asked why my audio sounds so good (though they lose interest when they learn it's thanks to $250 worth of quality audio gear).

I find this brilliant for a smaller set up and being mobile, great plug and play and if disconnected picks up again without making any changes in my daw. Great monitor sound and low latency too, recommend this

Before this, I had purchased the Behringer U-Phoria UM2, which I was admittedly able to get at 22% below the retail cost on Amazon.Upon receiving it, I was a bit disappointed with the build quality of the UM2 as its innards were ensconced in rather flimsy plastic, but what was to be expected for the price? I was willing to overlook that quirk, provided that the interface could work well enough for my needs. But when I actually tried it with my Rode NT1A, let's just say that I wasn't entirely impressed with the results. The UM2 sounded okay, but it was a bit noisier than what I was accustomed to (my other interface is a well-worn PreSonus Audiobox USB). Although I was on a budget, the lower price of the UM2 would have come at a cost of making recordings that wouldn't have been satisfactory to clients. I certainly wasn't pleased with it, that's for sure. What's the point at saving a buck, then?I went ahead and initiated a return of the UM2 and I decided to spend a little extra on the Tascam US-1x2HR.First, my decision to go with Tascam is because it's Teac. Now, some of what Teac has churned out recently hasn't been top notch, but they've also turned out some decent stuff, too. And, of course, Tascam is their professional line of audio gear. I've used Teac and Tascam stuff before, including their vintage equipment. There's also Teac's Esoteric line of high end hi-fi, but that's another story.Back to the interface: the difference between the UM2 and the US-1x2HR is night and day.The Tascam is heavier, with a durable metal construction not unlike my old PreSonus AudioBox.The Tascam was literally plug-and-play on my Mac computers, one running macOS Monterey and one running macOS Mojave. A driver installation is required for using this interface on a Windows PC, but that's no big deal. You can download the required driver from the support section of Tascam's website and install it on Windows prior to connecting the interface to the system. In terms of sound quality, the Tascam is far quieter with better dynamics, indicative of a superior preamp circuitry compared to the UM2.And, of course, the ability to work with a sample rate as high as 192 kHz is a plus whereas the UM2 is limited to a maximum of 48 kHz. The Tascam can also resolve level at up to 24-bit resolution whereas the UM2 is limited to 16-bit.To be fair, 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz at 16-bit wordlength provides more than adequate frequency response and dynamic range for vocal work. But having the ability to work with higher sample rates and wordlengths makes the Tascam that much more versatile for recording all sorts of sounds compared to the Behringer. Are there better interfaces than the Tascam for the price? Perhaps. But as I'm pleased with my test of the Tascam, I'm going to give this a whirl when recording VO gigs.

I've been using this regularly for about 3 months now and have clocked a lot of hours with it. It's given just solid performance, low noise, zero problems with the drivers, low hassle. Very pleased with it. I have not experienced any of the problems some folks have reported.Minor gripes.. I would like to have a mix control between computer and recording as a dial on the front panel, you have do it using the Tascam control interface in windows. Plus phantom power and direct monitor on/off are on the back on the unit. None of this effect its function, usability or quality. The most important thing is that it gives really good sound.
