tried to connect direct to modem. no connection. had to use modem and turn off wifi to connect. Told by rep at tp-link and they said I would need a plan for several hundred dollars to connect direct. Forget that. I can buy a router for less with no contract. My wife wants to lose wifi in the house, so we'll see how this goes.

I was going to wire my office upstairs and in a bad spot for the WiFi. Already have mesh set up. Have fiber internet. I work at home and had issues on calls. ChatGPT actually recommended this. It 10x’d my speeds. Super easy to set up. Told all of the coworkers to try it if they have stability issues.

I decided to buy this because in my garage was only one bar of wifi. I installed this, conected old router and got 100mbs(!) and strong signal. Just wow, 10/10

If you're looking to add wired Ethernet connectivity to your home without the hassle of running cables, these adapters are a fantastic solution. As an IT professional, I can attest to the superiority of wired connections over Wi-Fi. These adapters offer the same reliable performance of wired Ethernet, but wirelessly. I highly recommend them and have been using four in my own home.

I needed to get a WiFi signal from my living room to upstairs office, but the router wasn't strong enough for a reliable connection. I bought these refurbished and plugged one in by the router, and the other upstairs by my ethernet switch. I now have a decent ethernet connection without the hassle of running ethernet cable (which would have been my first choice) The Mbps isn't anywhere near 1 Gbps, as described but it is plenty fast enough for internet browsing and basic streaming. The connection quality can be influenced by things like are the adapters both on the same electrical phase? Are there "noisy" appliances on same circuit? Are these plugged in ahead of any surge suppressors?

It does not say it in the product description, but this will not work if the two outlets are not on the same circuit. It explains that in the user manual that you have to go find on the TP-link website. That tends to defy the purpose of this product because it is pretty rare to have outlets on opposite sides of the house on the same electrical circuit.

I've been using powerline ethernet adapters for many years. The only downside is that since you have to plug them directly into the wall socket, they are the victims of dirty power, power surges, etc, and after a few years, they stop working well or stop altogether. Just about the time the next gen of adapters is out and promising better speeds. I previously had Netgear Powerline 2000 Plug adapters that both went "RED" and would no longer function. I found these TP-Link AV 1000 refurb models on Amazon for around $40 which is about a third the price of a new pair of Netgear adapters. I figured, what the heck, if they don't work well I can always send them back as Amazon is great about standing behind the products they sell. When the new adapters arrived I plugged them in (opposite ends of the house), hit the reset buttons on each, and let them sync up. Afterwards my wired network was once again working great. I've only had these in place for a few days, but they are working just fine. The refurbs come with a 90 day warranty, so plenty of time to determine if you've got a defective device. I expect at least a few more years of trouble-free performance.

To confirm, this device works great between any two outlets in a home - assuming they are wired to the same breaker panel. They do not have to be on the same circuit breaker, just as long as they're wired in the main panel, you're good. My office is about as far away from the WiFi router as it can get, so I just plugged one into the router and the other in my office for a wired connection. I also connected another WiFi router to the device and the signal is as strong and fast as being in the same room with the original router. Way better than using a mesh network IMHO - way cheaper too!
