Smgda Vernier CalipersThis vernier caliper appears to be of low grade steel.The tool is made to be sold to the person who needs to occasionally measure an object fairly accurately.A tool made for daily or frequent use would cost much more. 5 or 6 times more.This caliper will measure the outside of a round object much more accurately than trying to eye-ball it with a ½ inch tape measure.Everything calibrates properly. The movement of the slide is even, and smooth. The screw lock works perfectly with a minimum of pressure.It would be preferable if the milling were more precise, and the metal a grade higher. That in mind, it is necessary to look back to price. This tool has the price of a throw away tool.There is nothing loose. With proper care, this caliper should last a long time for the occasional user.I am going to rate this caliper for what it is. A cheap caliper for the kitchen tool drawer.It is a good value for money. A 5.

This is an inexpensive device, so perhaps I was expecting too much. Most calipers have a ridged wheel for doing fine adjustments. This one just has a solid piece of metal in the shape of a wheel, which makes it very difficult to do those fine adjustments. I'll probably just toss it.I should have noticed before ordering that it was metric. That's my fault.

Not stainless steel, it's pretty rusty and has that crude oil smell on it. It is extremely rough to adjust. I didn't bother checking the accuracy with my dial calipers since what I wanted was stainless steel calipers.
