Whiteside Machine Company was founded in 1970 as a general purpose machine shop in the basement of Bill & Bobbie Whiteside's home. Located in Western North Carolina near the furniture manufacturing town of Hickory, the company was often involved in making repairs or special parts for the furniture and woodworking field. A strong commitment to customer problem-solving, a can-do attitude, and innovative ideas, along with a growing core of dedicated employees, helped the business evolve into a manufacturer of woodworking equipment and tooling. Ive use this size bit for pattern cutting for years I bought Frueds bit with straight flutes. Which work fairly well, but burn the wood and are somewhat difficult to push the the templates.Though I’ve only made a few cuts with these so far through an 1” thick mahogany these bits work great. I made several passes at 1/4” deep each and barley had to push on the router, it almost pulled itself. In addition there are no burn (which will make it last longer) or tear outs. This is all great, but the best part is due to the spiral I think the bit doesn’t produce as fine of a dust.

Seems like good quality, but the first time I used it to cut a small mortise in red oak, a small piece broke off one of the flute tips. For all I know, it was that way when I received it; I didn't inspect it. Either way, I expected better. In any event, it still cuts a flat bottomed groove, as the other tip is OK.

Excellent quality router bit for cutting dados for 1/4" birch plywood. I have no issues with tear/blow-out when cutting dados set in 1/4" from the back of cabinet jambs made of 3/4" maple or birch plywood. The fit is tight. The bit cuts through the veneer cleanly without any tearing.

Whenever I need a bit that Freud doesn't make, I go to whiteside. They are very good bits.
